Is this a good pc? Any improvements? Monitor recommendations?

Hi! So I've decided to build a pc. I have come up with this so far and I am not sure if this is good or if I can improve or need to change anything. Also, I am looking for good monitor recommendations.

The key questions:
  • what purpose are you going to use it for?
  • how much are you willing to spend on monitors? (i.e., what is your overall budget)

Also I'd recommend that you read this and spec an AMD build instead, have you ordered the above

Looking good! + a monitor

A £1700 budget basically has you looking at a luxury 1080p build (such as @Steveyg's, though I'd go for a 3060 personally). For £2k you can get a 1440p computer, which is a big upgrade, so I'd just want to ask if your budget can stretch to that...

Currently £100 difference... Depending how long OP is planning to stay with this GPU. If longer than 3-4 years, I'd say it's worth to go with 3060. Also, depends on the games (will want to play very new most demanding or not).

No I don't think it can
It's a pity. You can upgrade in the future, but obviously buying a graphics card and a monitor now and then another pair in a year or two's time is not ideal. If this was your intention, I'd go for @Steveyg's build exactly; if you were planning on sticking with it for longer, upgrade to the 3060 graphics card.

May I ask why do you need a 850W power supply and why are the SSD's in the SSD Drive area and not in the storage drive area? Does it make a difference?

850W RMx is a better quality PSU: runs cooler and more quiet. It only activates PSU fan when gets hot which makes the whole build more quiet. It's also a good idea to have more powerful PSU as it degrades in time, also in case if you decide to upgrade a GPU in future (and better GPUs usually require more power), you wouldn't need to change a PSU.

There're two types of SSDs: traditional Sata SSD and M.2 SSD. M.2 SSD are at least 4 times faster than Sata SSD. They both are storages, just under different dropdown sections for people to get less confused.

I don't like the 3060 to be honest, to me it's pretty much a pointless card. It's pretty close to the price point of a 1440p card but only really offers 1080p performance. Pay the extra couple £ to get the 6700XT or the 3060Ti and get a much much more powerful card for a little more.

Or drop a significant amount to the 1660 Super or the 2060 and still get stellar 1080p performance for a fraction of the cost

3060 doesn't make sense to me personally so I never recommend it. Unless we're talking about productions where the 12GB of VRAM is useful

On PCS at least, the card that currently makes no sense is the 1660 Super as its price is so similar to the 2060. I agree that the low price of the 3060 Ti is very tempting, but it doesn't really exist at the moment, so the point is moot.

The 3060 is a sizeable improvement on the 2060 especially, though not only, in ray-tracing; I think it offers on average a 20 to 30% improvement in frame rate. I don't think it's significant enough that I'd upgrade from the 2060 to the 3060, but I for one wouldn't buy the old one unless I was deliberately aiming at a budget build.

I get it but at the end of day you're still paying a premium for 1080p gaming with 1440p within your grasp. I just cant get my head around recommending it

I'd rather advise someone to wait or try and source a 3060Ti elsewhere than spend on a 3060. 2060 is a very decent card for 1080p and the 1660 Super does an admirable job for a significant saving.

It's not a card for a budget build and it's not a card for a premium build so it's kind of in a limbo of it's own creation.

It's only real strengths are high FPS 1080p and production builds. The problem being a high FPS 1080p card is that the guys who want that (ie competitive gamers) will likely go for a 1440p card to guarantee the performance they need for a consistent 240Hz at 1080p
