To be slightly blunt... no. The B450 motherboards are coming to the end of their lifespan, whereas the B550 will manage a chip change or two, the X570 even longer. The power supply is also at the lower end of the scale and will struggle to cope with newer GPUs as they’re released.

What’s the budget and what monitor will you be using? We might be able to come up something that’s built to accept future upgrades 👍

The real question is what are you planning on using it for? Gaming wise on modern titles with decent frame rate this will struggle now. Let alone in the future. If this is a pc intended for everyday use with maybe older game titles it will be *OK*, but this is more of a generic build for browsing and using the pc for work/light pleasure. That's my opinion on the build. BUT I Know NOTHING about AMD. I am only going on the info about the GPU and motherboard. :) I could be completely wrong so wait for some more replies 🙂

The thread is titled ‘IS THIS A GOOD GAMING PC FOR THE FUTURE’, I think that kinda answers your post...

Some poor choices for components and a dead end when it comes to upgrading too.
I wouldnt touch that motherboard, case or M.2 drive, and for the purposes you are aiming at (considering the title) you will be very disappointed.

Wait a month or so, new AMD chips are due out, GPU's are in the process of releasing.
Two months time a lot of things will have dropped in price and you will be able to get a better spec for the same money.

The monitor is only a 1080p 75Hz anyway, so no point getting a high spec GPU, but £900 total still means cutting a lot of corners and you will end up with a dead end build still if you buy now.

In a few months, with the new AMD CPU series being released, the current ones will likely drop in price, possible you will see the same with the GPU's too once they release the 3060, I would expect the 1660 and 2060 to both drop in price too.

If you really must buy now, then you would be looking at something like the build below, but the PSU and motherboard will both limit upgrade potential and you arent getting anything particularly great either.

You have received good advice above, tbh, I wouldn't buy a system at that budget, you won't be doing yourself any favours. A gaming PC at the very least meets the criteria that the platform is strong enough to handle any upgrade over 7 - 10 years lifespan, if it doesn't meet that, it's not considered worthwhile. The one you've posted is a throwaway pc, you'd have to ditch it after a year, possibly year and a half.

Save up a bit more, get a proper pc.

sorry for the duplication. My problem is that I want to buy a gaming pc for my husband for christmas. My budget is limited. He is not a professional gamer he just likes strategy games. He uses Steam and Total War age of Empires and Man of War. He has an 1080 monitorI would like to buy a pc that will last me a few years. He also wants one with a dvd player. got this list yesterday and I would need more advice before I spend,
As above, advice is the same, save up a tiny bit more to make it a worthwhile build, you’ll need about 950euro for a basic pc build. You don’t need to save up much more but it will make all the difference.

Is this good enough lots of delays because of Covid need to order now
You would need a much better case, I wouldn’t go less than the Corsair listed above

You'll want a 650W TXm PSU, it's not about what the build needs now, it allows you to upgrade in the future when the GPU starts to struggle. The GPU will be the first bottleneck in any system.

I'd drop bullguard and the extra fan.

Other than that it's fine.

Pretty much, yes...you might get one upgrade on the GPU, but the PSU will limit further ones, motherboard same again in that it may take one CPU upgrade... you will get a couple of years out of it, but its not a system that will last you a decade/upgrade properly as you go.

Not without taking the core parts out and upgrading the entire build, which is the same as a new computer.

Is this true will this be a throwaway pc. Being an OAP I’ve learned a lot from you but I don’t want to be stupid and buy something useless. Thank you for all the support and knowledge you have given me👌
Your original build was, the one you posted last that I gave this advice to was sound:

You want the airflow case rather than the compact one. The compact one is closed off and not the best for "airflow" or temps.

I would opt for a better PSU and drop the Bullguard security. The built in Windows Defender is the best option for general use.
