Ionico issue

Hi Spyder, I understand, and this is why I have installed fresh installations of Windows 10, Windows 11 and Ubuntu, as I described at the start.

You have stated that in addition to drivers, the system needs to be "configured". As far as I am aware we should only need to install the drivers for the laptop. So far PCS support have not advised on any required configuration and there is no documentation for this either.

If you could advise as to what configuration might be required, that would be very useful and greatly appreciated.

Have you ever found a solution? I have the same issue with Ionico running Windows 10, although with Intel CPU. I configured many laptops in the past and this is the first behaving like this.

Thanks.

Yours was bought second hand, have you had ownership transferred by the seller? Until that's done I'm afraid we can't offer any support on this forum, it's a closed forum only for PCS customers with an account.

Yes, and just like OP I followed the same procedure when reinstalling system, drivers etc. downloaded from PCS account.

So you've got control center installed? If so which version?

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

The only upgrades were additional NVMe drive (Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB) and swapping memory for Hynix 3200MHz modules. When I reinstalled the system PCS supplied Control Centre would not work. There was an icon on the desktop, but clicking on it did nothing. Since I had not luck, I've been using Eluktronics CC (same model as their MAX-17). I don't remember the origianl PCS version and looks like it's been removed from download page. I've just tried the newer version available (5.1.49.11) and it behaves in the same way. Likewise, with no CC isntalled at all. As I said before, I configured many laptops in the past, including Clevo models, and all were going to sleep straight away without any complaints.

If you’re using a different SIs control center then that’s your issue, it’s for a different BIOS, not something we can support you on.

Begs the question, if you really have transferred ownership why on earth would you not contact PCS when you found control center had been removed from your downloads and install a totally unverified version risking bricking your BIOS? Logical conclusion is that you haven’t transferred ownership and therefore have no PCS account with drivers.

I won’t offer any more support, you’d need to liaise with PCS

I think I clearly wrote that I installed PCS CC, version 5.1.49.11, and the laptop exhibits the same issue.

Yeah, it would if the system wasn’t configured correctly or if the control center was incompatible due to being outdated or for a different configuration. The idea is to troubleshoot why rather than installing dangerous software.

As control center sets PL values in the BIOS you may well find your limits now (written by the Eluktroniks CC) are not compatible with the PCS BIOS it’s writing to.

Point is as you've been using an incompatible control center affecting the BIOS, it's not something we can help with at all, you'd need to liaise with PCS directly. It can be reset but only with a low level reflash, and only PCS can do that for you.

People don't understand what a management driver is, if windows isn't configured when you install the management driver, it won't work, if the management driver is not compatible for any reason, it won't work. The management driver ties into all areas of the hardware and drivers, it controls the cooling, the CPU power limits, the screen, sleep function, literally everything. Without the system correctly configured, it's not going to work properly.

The OP had clearly outlined they hadn't configured windows correctly which but they'd ordered without windows so aren't eligible for software support.

Did PCS send you a link to the 5.x version?

The latest version that is fully compatible with my Ionico 2022 is the 4.9.x

As @SpyderTracks mentioned, the problem could be caused by an incorrectly configured system. In my opinion, a clean install is your best and only option now.

Sounds like a plan. This is a second hand laptop and it exhibited the issue when I've got it when it appeared to be running on vanilla PCS configuration. But obviously this was assumed as I don't and will never know the full history of the laptop. I was just curious that other people experienced the same issue - there was another person reporting this problem in a different thread.

@bladteth please note I have moved your question to its own thread as it should have originally been its own anyways, also you were replying to a 2 year old thread anyway which is never the best thing to do

Hi @bladteth

Yes I have still have this problem. There are times when sleep works and I think I fixed it. Then sleep stops working again.

I have wasted countless hours/days/months! trying to solve it and have since given up. I had a reinstall of Windows 10, and since then a fresh install of Windows 11 (both with all the latest drivers from the PCS download for my machine).

I also see SpyderTracks is still as unhelpful as ever, still taking about Windows not being "configured" correctly without giving any advice on what actual configuration is required!

I won't be buying from PCSpecialist again. The overall quality is just too poor for the £1,700 I paid. The support on here is condescending. I expected better. I made a mistake with this purchase and have since moved on.

You ordered without windows, so you obviously know how to configure it, but you've admitted that you haven't configured it correctly so obviously not. PCS won't tell how to properly configure windows as you didn't pay for that service, you can't expect something for free.

For anyone else reading, if you don't understand how to manage windows, ordering an OS is not just ordering a license, it's paying for complete configuration and software support moving forwards.

Cheaping out if you don't have the skills is just not worth it.

If you don't like the advice/suggestions/tone of the volunteers on here, then you're free to call/chat/email with PCS official support to ask about the W11 specific drivers needed for the custom-built laptop you bought.

We're not PCS, so can't provide you with any drivers.

I performed clean install of Win11, then went back to original Win10 with drivers from PCS website. No change, same issue. PCS tech support after a numerous emails back and forth, kindly sent me BIOS and after re-flash, I've not noticed problems with sleep so far, even though it is the same version. BTW, I did not touch Windows config after re-flash, so that was not the issue, obviously.
