Internet connection

TBH either way there is a VPN issue.

1. If the PC has connected to the VPN server, which it has in the first example, then why does he have no connectivity? I appreciate that it might take a minute or two to connect but from the ipconfig output (the first one) he is connected to the VPN server (with address 10.5.0.2) but he says he has no Internet access.

2. If he can reboot and the VPN fails to connect at all, as happened in the second example, then that's not good either.
Oh god, I was reading the outputs the wrong way round, very sorry.

Yes, it looks like the VPN is connected at first and then disconnected in the second.

So if it's set to autoconnect, that looks like it's failing and falling back on the local LAN.

Yes, absolutely @ubuysa.

@rouchie when you installed Nord, did you disable controlled folder access in security settings? If not it will block installation components. You'll also need to do that whenever you install an update.

Just for info, Nord is very different to PIA. PIA is a mass adopted tool more for the everyday user who isn't really concerned with security, just speed and getting a foreign IP address for torrenting or bypassing geo blocks. The company is based in the USA, which means by law they have to keep logs and are bound to hand them over at any request from government and some private ISP's etc. They also use open source protocols like OpenVPN and IPSec which are great, but quite old now and prone to disonnections.

Nord is a very different beast entirely. It prioritises security over everything, but happens to have good performance at the same time. It's a more bespoke option for a far smaller userbase. They're based in Panama and as such don't have any laws and any logs are purged after 24 hours. Nord uses a proprietary protocol called NordLynx which is widely regarded as the most secure VPN available. It's much more expensive as a result.

PIA is what you use for torrents or to get access to a foreign gambling site or American Netflix or something like that.

Nord is what the techies use as it's largely untraceable.

Thanks for the info @SpyderTracks, apprecviate you taking the time to explain, I switched from PIA to Nord as I found PIA caused issues in all sort of scenarios, for example paying for anything on line meant I had often had to disable the app and reload the browser which was far from ideal. I did a little research and switched. Nord has been much more seamless in use apart from this initial start up issue. My settings are -
