Hi guys,
For the last 15 years or so I've been deep into Intel/Nvidia builds and seeing the latest tech advancements, I think I need to start looking at another route.
My PC is getting on a bit, I currently run an i7 8700k and RTX 2080 for the best past of 7 years, the GPU being the most recent upgrade.

I'm a complete AMD novice, with extremely limited knowledge on the brand but interest to learn. I'm basically checking that this build will be as future-proofed as possible. Please let me know your thoughts.

Could you have a read of this, and come back with answers to the questions posed:

The reasoning is on the linked post, but we need your MAX BUDGET, your usage (gaming only, video rendering only, mostly gaming, etc.), and finally we'll need to know the make & model or resolution and refresh rate of your monitor if it's for gaming.

BTW, what is the specific need for the 10Gb ethernet card...have you some fast network storage/cluster you need to connect to?

Absolutely right, details I should have posted originally.

Max budget: £2500
Used for gaming, watching streamed content, photo editing & light Photoshop.
The main monitor is a ROG Strix XG27AQMR (1440p 144hz)

The ethernet card is a mistake, I must have clicked it on accident when browsing the options. Absolutely no need for 10gb card!!!

This is a little more expensive - almost right on your max - but has upgrades to the RAM, CPU, motherboard and SSDs.

Case
FRACTAL NORTH TG XL GAMING CASE (BLACK) - no change, as this is somewhat of a personal aesthetic choice
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core CPU (Up to 5.2GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - the best gaming CPU around...and no slouch in productivity areas either
Motherboard
GIGABYTE X870 EAGLE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) - much higher level, full-ATX motherboard (more room for adding other components, and more USB headers, better components, etc.)
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (2 x 16GB) - 6000MHz is the sweet spot of cost/performance for AM5 CPUs - 4600MHz RAM could reduce performance by 20% in some memory-intensive scenarios
Graphics Card
16GB GIGABYTE RADEON™ RX 9070 XT GAMING OC - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP - no change
Graphics Card Support Bracket
PCS GRAPHICS CARD SUPPORT BRACKET - no change
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 6500MB/sW) - much more reliable than the Samsungs, but could be swapped to the equivalent 1TB Corsair Elite MP600 if you want to keep it to all Corsair storage and save £24
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) - much (10x) faster than the SATA SSD you'd chosen for storage
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1200W HXi SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® PLATINUM V2 - no change, excellent PSU and plenty of room for a GPU upgrade over the next 3-10 years time
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core) - no change
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR ICUE LINK TITAN 360 RX RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - no change
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING - removed the Arctic paste as it would mean removing the better quality, machine-applied Corsair paste on the AIO and having a inconsistent human application of the Arctic paste
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
ONBOARD 2.5Gbe LAN PORT
Wireless Network Card
NONE OR ONBOARD Wi-Fi (MOTHERBOARD DEPENDENT)
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Thank you so much for the notes. This really helps explain the differences. You can see this build lasting as well?

My current PC struggling to run the latest titles as smooth as I'd come to expect left me a little shocked and saddened, the i7x2080 combo did serve me well...

The only really performance upgrade you'd need to make is to the GPU...and that will be every 3 years or so (so maybe 2 or 3 generations later).

Of course there's always a newer, faster CPU down the line, but 1 generational upgrade usually isn't worth the cost.

Storage can be added/increased easily afterwards.

Thank you! I got that RTX2080 when it was new and since becoming a father the year previous, I lost a lot of gaming time. I'm starting to get it back again now hence this enquiry.

The Intel and Nvidia scene is crazy to watch so AMD seems to be performing much better this time around.
