Installing a 2nd SSD

Evening all,

I plan on upgrading my computer to include an 2nd SSD. I already have a 180gb Intel 335 Series SSD which works like a charm but I ran out of space quickly when I installed some big games (e.g Battlefield 4/3 on it) and when GTAV comes out I fancy on having a bit more space and the capability of putting it on an SSD.

I have recently found this SSD HERE and am wondering can I install this on my computer. I either plan for the 240gb or 480gb model while they are relatively cheap.

These are my specs:

Case InWIN GT1 BLACK GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4770 (3.4GHz) 8MB Cache
Motherboard ASUS® Z87-A: ATX, USB3.0, SATA6GB/S, SLi, XFIRE +
Memory (RAM) 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)
Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 770 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready

I am just wondering if I bought a mounting bracket and/or cables would my PC be able to run this?

Thanks in advance.

Your case should have come with spare brackets to fit additional drives. You should also have spare sata cables, I would suggest checking what comes with the SSD before ordering additional ones

Be a little cautious with the V300s, they have serious speed issues with the latest generations which makes it about the same as an SSHD for 3 times the price. Personally I'd steer clear and go for the Hyper-x 3k or samsung or intel.

As keynes says, your case has space for 2 x 2.5" drives, so you're only using one bay hopefully, so it should just be a case of mounting it the same as your current one and attaching power and SATA cables from the PSU.

So I've found the box with all extra cables in as it looks live I've got a mounting tray for it to sit on but I have not got a clue which cables are for what. Here's some photos of what I've got. image.jpg

I think I've got one bay for the SSD and one bay for the hard drive. The bay below the SSD I can access but there is a tie clip but I can easily get past that. image.jpg. I wouldn't know where to plug it in though or how to wire it correctly but with a guide I could.

Looks like I'll have a look at the Samsung ones as they're cheap for the space they have. Thanks for the advice!
