Today I'm pointing you at a Kickstarter as I'm interested in the game and would like to see it made.
I will play anything and a company that I've bought a few games from, 270soft, specialises in political games. Most of their games to date have focussed on a single election, so you can play the "what if?" scenario of whether a different candidate could have beaten Trump in 2016, or would the UK election in 2019 have gone differently with someone other than Corbyn in charge of Labour. They're incredibly dry games, but I find turn-based political games a good way to get the ol' noggin going. I once managed to win the Greens a handful of seats in the 2015 General Election with a bit of luck.
Their next planned game is by far their most ambitious as it will allow you to play the entirety of US history from 1772 to the present and on into the future. You can see what might have happened had the US decided it wanted to continue with slavery in the 1850s (Northern Confederates basically!), or if JFK hadn't been shot. The game will have more than 7,000 historical politicians, so will have plenty of depth and replayability.
They're more than halfway to a goal of a little under £15,000 in a few days, so I'm hopeful the game will happen.

It has been a while since I posted in here. The Kickstarter I linked to has been met, so I'll be running a Communist USA by the end of 2022!
One indie publisher that is behind some really fun games is Devolver Digital (the Serious Sam series is one of their best known IPs), and one game of theirs which I really enjoyed from 2021 is Olija. It's a pixel game based on exploration and I feel it was done to a high standard. Less than 400 Steam reviews after a year shows that it hasn't had much attention which I feel is a shame.

I'm typically the same with Metroidvanias. This looks like it may be the kind I'm into.
I think Shadow Complex from the Xbox 360 era was the last one that really sank it’s hooks into me.

Next recommendation from me is the simply amazing Technobabylon. It's a cyberpunk point & click game with a retro art style which the publisher (Wadjet Eye Games) typically uses in all of the games they both develop and publish. The voice acting is surprisingly good, and certainly outshines some games that likely had far bigger budgets. The puzzles are mostly straightforward and there's often more than one way to solve quite a few of them.
Along with Wadjet Eye's Blackwell series, it's well worth a play!
