I want to build a super fast but quiet system, Ryzen 9

Firstly I would like to apologize for any formatting issues as my pc died and I am forced to use my phone.

If I could I would have waited another year before upgrading, as I am forced to upgrade my cpu sooner, I would like to have the best set up possible so that I only have to worry about upgrading my gtx 1080 in a few years to whatever comes after the 3000 series of cards.

I do video editing and a lot of gaming, I like to play heavily modded Skyrim, mmos and games like valorant. So I definitely want the 12 core 5900 Ryzen 9 cpu, no higher or less. What I don't know for sure is if my mother board will get the most out of my ssd speed, I don't want to have chosen parts that didn't bring out its full potential.

I also chose ultra quiet options as I would like to keep noise pollution to a minimum, I guess there might be limits to that so I am cool with it.

I use an ethernet cable so I don't see a need for the wifi option, I also use a Dac with my headphones so I don't think I really need a soundcard.

I want this to be a good solid base for my computer from the get go, so I don't have to think about upgrading a component other than my graphics card. My technical understanding is very limited, but I understand enough to appreciate the end result. I want a machine several steps ahead of current gen consoles, so I am interested in how the ssd performance compares to the ps5 as I have been told that the console had the fastest ssd.

Likewise the more ram space i have the easier time I will have editing, but I also hope it translates to gaming performance and will be enough for 4k editing in the next 5 years.

Thank you for reading, once again sorry for any typing issue, I have had to use my phone and its awkward.

Edit : Should I go for 850 psu for future proofing?

And which case will be the best for keeping things cool and spacious for a gfx card?

Also keep in mind I would rather have more performance over quietness if its significantly better result.

Hi there. What’s your budget and what monitor do you use? Make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be handy to know 👍

I use an acer 1440 165hz g-sync monitor, at the moment I can't say which model exactly.

I am hoping to stick with this resolution with the hopes that a future graphics card will let me hit 165 frames at least in some of the competitive multi player games
Edit: budget is around 1500 pounds but I could chip in extra just as long as its a system i will be set with for the next five years. I want to future proof as reasonable I can.

My last cpu was an 2014 i-7 4790 I believe, I felt like it would let me down in some cpu bound games and editing 4k

Okie dokie, thanks for the info (y)

This would be a fantastic system for multi-core goodness and is as quiet a configuration as you'll get. It has crept over budget but its a worthwhile investment and with the right GPU upgrades will last you closer to ten years.

Would the OP be able use his Windows licence from old PC if it’s not working any more. Might save him a little and get it nearer his budget?

Yes, as long as it's a Windows 10 license (even if upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1) and as long as it's a digital license associated with a Microsoft ID.

I noticed you swapped out the cooling system from the ultra quiet version, what was the reason? Also noticed you switched the ssd for two instead of the one fastest, I think I could get by on 1 tb as I have plenty of external harddrive space, I am more interested in it being optimal. Also I noticed you changed the case, how much of an impact does that have on sound?

Also thanks for the response, I might pick up this spec but perhaps change the ssd. For the fastest 1tb one.

Edit: after reading more carefully i don't think there is anything wrong with the ssd you chose.

Hi there. So... the cooler you chose is an older model and not as efficient, it'd potentially struggle with thermal output when that CPU is under load. The one I opted for is the newest model, much better equipped for the processor. And it uses magnetic levitation fans so it doesn't have traditional bearings. So it's even quieter!

The case is by far the best one available for a 'silent' PC that doesn't compromise on airflow. The rest are essentially sealed boxes.

The logic behind the two M.2 drives is to have the super fast Samsung as your boot drive, with just your OS and programs on. You'll be at your home screen within seconds of powering on... and as you're not clogging it up with games and things, it will remain fast throughout the lifespan of the system. Then the second one is for fast storage (I’ve been playing Red Dead 2 recently and it’s really helped speed up the loads). Added bonus is that if you need to do a clean install of Windows at any point your games and video work will be safely stored and won’t get wiped. Handy if you’ve got a large games library and saves the pain of downloading them all over again. It's a really sensible move for those who have the budget for it.

Thanks for your response, so does mean I would have a 500gb hard drive I would barely use or could I still load a select few games up? I had a regular ssd before from 2015 and I don't recall having issues even though it would have around 40 or 50 gb free out of 500.

I would think using the faster m.2 ssd would be best for open world games right? I also play a heavily modified Skyrim that has a folder size of 100 gb or so (the Elysium modlist from the wabbajack installer)

Of course, you could definitely put a few games on there, I just wouldn't in an ideal world get it over 70-80 percent filled because even NVMe drives will slow down as their capacity is filled. It really depends on the game. Red Dead 2, for example, doesn't have any loading once you're in the game. But if your character dies (as mine frequently does) then the loading time as it resurrects you is interminable. It'd be pointless for a game like Rocket League :D

Honestly I think modded Skyrim is the only thing I ever felt loaded slow on my 2015 ssd, I am just concerned because I remember hearing a lot of hype about consoles utilising faster load speeds and I don't want to spend so much money just to fall behind that, I think I might go with two 500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W) I do have a main staple of games but I can keep things offloaded on externals until its time to swap them out. It takes me a bit over budget but if this machine goes the distance then I am happy.

Will this version still be overclocked? Or should I not overclock for the sake of longevity?

After reading the forum while waiting for my system to be built (15 days) I noticed you saying in another thread that the cooler's thermal paste is better than the artic one? I chose the artic one with the assumption it was better even though it is just a few quid more. The money isn't an issue, but I would rather have what performs better. As my pc is still in pre production should I change back to default? I don't want to have to end up waiting longer as I need my pc asap.

Making a change probably doesn't save me money because of an amendment cost. If I leave things as it is, the artic paste should still be really good right?

Leave it off. They’d have to take the pre-applied paste off in order to add the Arctic which ends up being messier and potentially not as evenly applied across the CPU. There’s no benefit to purchasing the Arctic paste when you buy one of those coolers.
