I know next to nothing about computer so help

I at this moment have a asus x501a
so anything is an upgrade but I would like to bigish in terms of upgrading

Why not a PC
well in short i dont have space to have a perment desk for it

why i choice this one
It have a full size keybord (no tiny buttons and a enter key on the num pad )
and has a headphone jack on the right hand side
Do you know how hard it is to find laptop those two things

Ok so i guess i have got to say what I want it for right

I would like to be able to play games that need graphics to work
Like could this run the witcher 3 ? could it run civ 6 ?

Would this work with a VR head set is that a thing this could do?
VR seems super cool and something i might want to try in the near futuers
"but you said you don't have space for a desk" well yes i did say that but I can move a coffe table to one side of the living room for "space" but the outer people i live with would be mad if put a desk in the middle of a room

How long before this is "out of date" as in how long could i still play game on it without needing to "set graphics to low" thats a thing right most of the games i play at the moment don't rellay have graphics so i dont know

is there a better opitions out there plese tell me if there is

Sorry if the is in the worng place or ive missed something

there are probly sarvel spelling mistakes

thank you very much kind internet strangers for your help

What's your budget?

This build will have no problem with civ 6 or witcher but it's unbalanced. you're wasting a lot of money on parts you dont need.

If you could post the reconfig link we can make some changes to your build.

I'd probably swap out the 3700X for the 3600X (unless you've got a specific need for more cores) and swap the 1x32GB for 2x8gb or 1x16GB (unless you've got a specific need for 32GB) to save you £200.

I'd also swap out the slower 1TB 870 QVO SATA SSD for a much faster 1TB m.2 Intel 665 SSD (which will save you a few £££ too).

Would bring your cost down to £1371 overall.

I don't know if i need more "cores" but if its the "same" i will switch

I though 32gb would give longer time before i would need to upgrade

I just saw bigger number an though big number means farster the bit at the end the brackets
but if its farster and less i will be switching

thank you for all the advice

You may have misread the numbers then as the 870 QVO is 560mbps wheras the Intel 665 is 2000mbps.

However, it's easy to miss on the configurator as the '1st Storage Drive' section only shows the slower SATA-connected drives.
It's the '1st m.2 SSD Drive' and '2nd m.2 SSD drive' sections show the faster PCIe-connected drives.

Even then it's a trade off between an expensive super-fast drive (that you possibly won't notice/need) vs just a very quick drive for the same price as a 'very slow' one.

I though 32gb would give longer time before i would need to upgrade
More memory does not equate to longer life - it equates to having more space to run programs. If you only run one program at a time, then it's wasted. So you're better off going for less but faster memory than more but slower.

I don't know if i need more "cores" but if its the "same" i will switch
If you don't run something the needs more cores, or if you don't know you run something that needs more cores, then they won't necessarily help. So why waste money on something that's not going to be used.

First thing to note: I assume this will be used predominantly on the mains? I ask as the Nova has a poor battery life for a laptop (1.5 to 2 hours, maybe less) as it has a desktop processor.

The 3700x isn't really needed for gaming but, as the budget is there, no harm in putting it in...same with the RAM. Have changed the hard drives slightly as the PCS variants are fine for gaming and it gives you a bigger primary drive. Added the dead pixel guarantee
