I’ve messed up. Kind of

Afternoon every one.. I recently purchased a PC from pc specialist. Couldn’t be happier all went smooth. However the more I have learned about the gaming pc world (as I am new) I realised I should have purchased a GPU with higher VRAM. I’m on 8gb.. and that’s fine for most however it’s becoming clearer as games get better that it’s on the low side mainly when playing cod (robs my ram for other places) and the new Indiana jones game. Although it’s not world ending I was curious if there was any alternatives or should I just buy a new GPU?

How recently was recently, because if it was really recently I'd send that back and get your money back then come back for proper advice after reading the link below,no one on here would advise an Intel cpu

Like a few months now.. oh I had no idea I thought intel was one of the better ones to go for. Has that got anything to do with the vram capabilities though?

The 14700k wont have issues - but yeah better bang for your buck with AMD at the mo for CPU's.

Ah I have been getting the odd game crash then the game shuts down. But I’ve also had Norton pop up saying the specific game is using a lot of cpu power so I looked into that and thought it was a vram issue.

Remove that using the official Norton removal tool, then just use Windows defender, Norton is nearly as bad as some of the things it's supposed to protect against

Indiana Jones is a massive resource hog. The recommended spec is 12GB, which is the bare minimum I would be looking at these days, and indeed the minimum for low settings. Games are becoming more and more resource hungry and 8GB just won't cut it, even at 1080p.

To be fair I was just looking for something that could replace my series x I wasn’t overly bothered about it being top bracket. But yes I wish I did initially probably could have done better for same price.

You're on DDR4, we're already on DDR5 and that was released 4 and a half years ago. DDR4 was released in 2014.

14700k is affected, all the way down to the 65w parts are confirmed affected which includes entry level i5’s, non-k parts as well, but even then Intel have said that the BIOS update has to be applied to ANY 13th and 14th Gen CPU's as they can't be certain if other parts are affected.

There were basically 4 microcode mitigations released, only one of them was specific to the i9's.

That’s fine mate atleast I know where I stand.. rather then upgrading I’ll keep it for abit then just make a whole new system.. after coming back on here and getting advice. Cheers mate
