Hi. I have been intouch with pcspecailist see if I can update mi bios and they said yes if I feel comfortable doing it

. I was wondering. Could some please explain how easy it is to update bios.
When it comes stuff like that. I get worried as i have never done it before. I only know how to put the pc on and play games haha.
Once i updated bios. Do i need to do anything else in bios Like set everything back up, ( speed of rams, Fans speed etc etc )
I am using AMD 3900x. Asus Strix X570-F board. The bios version i have installed is 2608 that is from 08/09/2020. Latest 1 is version 4021 from 26/08/2021.

Updating the BIOS is not a task to be taken lightly. Whilst it’s not too difficult a job, it’s also been really easy to mess up your system whilst doing so if you’re not careful in the past. It’s easier these days thanks to EZ Flash but you can still brick your motherboard if there’s a temporary loss of power or a surge.

May I ask why you want to update it? It’s not something I’d normally touch unless I was encountering significant issues with the system.

Its something you need to go through with PCS to retain warranty.

I have a elgato facecam (webcam) and it's plugged into a 3.0 USB as advice and after 2min or so. The camera freezes and turns off. So I tried cam on another pc but with Intel and I have no issues. I got told by elgato amd was having issues with usb and they fixed it. So need to update bios. Noticed other people using amd having issues till they updated bios and all working fine now

You'd need to do it with PCS to retain warranty. They need to guide you through it.

By the way, I'm not trying to be difficult by saying this, but it's in PCS terms and conditions that you need to go through BIOS updates with them to retain warranty.

If we were to talk you through it and you got something wrong because you didn't understand the terminology, you wouldn't be covered, we are not an official support arm of PCS, we're just helping out.

For this, if you knew what you were doing, then PCS have given permission.

But as you've not done it before, any guidance needs to come from PCS and they can then accept responsibility if it fails to boot.

I just been intouch with PCS. They going to forward email to bios team and they will send me latest version to download with instructions of how to do it. I told them i aint got guts to do it incase anything happens, all they said its super easy. follow instructions and you will be fine. I said do i need to change anything in bios afterwards. for example, ram speed, fan speed etc. they said only ram speed. can anyone confirm if that is all i have to change. They said everything else will go back to how it is now.

I wouldn't have thought a bios update would even change RAM speeds unless it automatically resets defaults for some reason.

No idea. Thats what i got told by 2 people who works for them. I asked how i go on about sending in as i dont have guts to do it. All they said its not hard, put usb drive in, Update it and change ram speed back.. So tbh i don't know what to do. risk doing it or just leave it.

If i did update it. Would i need to change anything in bios like. ( fan speed, other stuff or would everything go back to how it is ) sorry but am new to bios. so not sure how it all works.

when i did my bios i did have to go in to change the ram speed , but that was all really, i just watched a video guide, took me 2 minutes to do . If you still not happy, you can always take piccys of bios screens before and after , and look at if or what has changed . I am sure only thing was my ram speed . I am a total noob, but i did it :) .

Taking photos and comparing is a good way if it makes you feel happier . i never did this, but would do in future .

Final point , if you have spoken to pcs and they can confirm to you that you warranty is all good if you do it, then that should make you feel even more confident .

People get a little scared with bios , as i was , but once you do it , you think, well that was not too bad at all . Update it as instructed by pcs , take piccys of bios before , go set ram speed back , i am sure you will need to do this . Compare piccys of before and your screens now . job done .

if you really not happy ask pcs to do it , i am sure they will offer the service for you

Since PCS have advised you to update the BIOS, and supplied the BIOS code, if anything goes wrong they will fix it under warranty. :)

Well done. The BIOS is an essential tool so getting some exposure to it will stand you in good stead.
