Prior to my PC Specialist laptop I had a digital license connected to my Microsoft account. After my purchase (buying without an OS) I tried to activate the license to find that somehow it was no longer there.
I have recently bought a Windows 10 Pro disc with product key to find that when I once again try to activate it, I cannot.
I have gone into settings/Update & Security/RecoveryReset this PC.
I have also tried the advanced start up, and the "More recovery options" each one then installs Windows 10 but when I try the product key it is unsuccessful.
In the activation page it states Error code: 0xC004C003. After entering the key it tells me to check the key and try again quoting: 0xc004f050.
I contacted the product key seller who asked me to ensure I update pc with a fresh installation & do I have a previous windows already installed?
What is the easiest way to get my key activated?
My Windows disc is in an external DVD caddy which I put my optical drive in which I removed from my last pc, but when I tried to access it It took me to BIOS and I didn't know which was the DVD drive.

Sorry to go on a bit, but I'm just trying to give as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance.

There is no product key in windows 10, it is automatically generated and embedded in the BIOS.

When you tie a key to your microsoft account, all you do is sign in to windows with that microsoft account and it automatically registers it.

You will need to do a fresh install by downloading the latest image to a USB key (don't use the DVD as it will be out of date:

Then boot from the USB and follow the instructions. The first section is choosing where to install, you have to delete any partitions on the OS drive and install to the blank space.

Try creating new install media on another PC if possible.
Another (worrying) thought is that the Pro key you purchased isn’t genuine & has been blocked by Microsoft.
You say you already have Windows license tied to your Microsoft account - is that an OEM or Retail license? If OEM then it cannot be used on another PC, if Retail is it Home or Pro?
Was the Windows 10 license (on the old PC) an upgrade from a previous Windows version or was it purchased with Windows 10?

The license was an upgrade from Windows 8. I have now been able to activate it. I ended up wiping my files from my hdd and initially installed it on that drive first (I should have removed the HDD first to prevent that happening) then I reinstalled on the primary drive (NVME) so then it said that the product key was already in use.
I then went back on to the Microsoft site and used the "help" tab for an online chat and was given an ID number and told to type SLUI 04 into the task bar and follow instructions.
To tell the truth it was a little vague for a while and I was at a loss what to do, but I went back to the activation tab in the settings app and was able to successfully complete the activation.

Thanks all for your input.

Happy it's sorted. It wasn't wise to install Windows to the HDD and then attempt to install it on the SSD as well. Not only does it confuse Windows licensing as you discovered, but having two bootable Windows systems on the same PC can be confusing for the end user too!

The SLUI command is the Software Licensing User Interface, SLUI 4 is the "call Microsoft and activate manually" option.

Out of interest, which license did you end up using, the digital license tied to your Microsoft ID or the (possibly suspect) one you bought?

I've just looked and it turns out, after all my trouble I have the digital license once more linked to my Microsoft account
I'm happy enough using that, and I'm more than happy I never paid the full amount for the product key. 👌
