How does this look?

Hey everyone. How does the below spec look?

Need something fast that can run lot's of programmes at once and handle a good bit of gaming but not going to be streaming or anything like that. 4K gaming too. Also going to be doing a lot of software development on it which I know isn't intensive in itself but like to have a ton of stuff open at once for easy switching between projects. The current old PC grinds to a halt with like 3 chrome tabs lol.

PSU is overpowered but I plan to add more bits to it in the future so that's fine.

Only 2TB at the moment but would be adding more SSD's later anyways so is plenty for now.

Feedback appreciated or is there anything I should change? Price is currently at the maximum so switching or cheaper changes only.

Thanks :)

Can you elaborate a bit as to what specifically makes it more powerful?

Yeah no problem

Modern CPU the 12700K is probably the best gaming CPU on the market right now, at least the best in terms of what makes sense. You can get more raw power out of 12900K but this offers marginal improvements at best over the 12700K

Although the 12700K is a massive leap over the 5800x. Mainly because the 5800x is a generation behind now, still very capable but not close the new 12700K

The RAM you selected was too slow, the minimum we recommend these days is 3200Mhz. Any less than that especially in a Ryzen system will negatively affect the CPU

GPU I kept the same but we match these to monitors. The 3070Ti is a top of the line 1440p GPU and will also let you enter into 4K territory as well

More optimal storage to include a dedicated boot/OS drive to make sure windows is always running optimally

1000W PSU to ensure enough power for future ugprade. I know 1000W seems absolutely ridiculous but the new CPU's from Intel are drawing stupid power and the new 4K GPU's also seem to be creeping ever higher in the power draw so we buy PSU's based on what we think we need in the future not what we need now. I think 1000W PSU's are going to be really common in a few years, I wish I put one in my build from last year to be honest

Suitable CPU cooler for the 12700K which runs really hot. The H115i is up there at the top of the line though and will handle it no problem

All this combined will offer you fantastic performance and most importantly in my opinion a balanced base that can be upgraded for years to come

That's awesome thanks. I selected a Ryzen as a few people I work with are always recommending them but you make a great argument for the intel.
Is a separate OS drive much better than say a partition for the OS?

Also, the case you chose was there any specific reason for that case?

The 5000D airflow is a personal favourite of mine so I always recommend it, great for airflow it's big and has tonnes of space so you don't have to worry about large components fitting inside. I also personally think it looks fantastic especially in person but if you fancy a difference case we can recommend others

Ryzen where absolutely the front runners until Intel launched their new CPU's before xmas and they've taken the lead for now. New Ryzen CPU's are due out later this year so I suspect AMD will take the lead again then but for now Intel are in front

The 12700K is a beast though no reason you'll have to change that for a good 7-8 years I reckon, could easily squeeze 10 years out of that build with appropriate care and GPU upgrades

It is nice but I was wanting some RGB spinny fan goodness for no good reason :) lol

What about the M.2 drives you selected? Is a separate drive really much better than a partition and is the second drive being slower worse than having the bigger one that I selected but faster?

Yeah personally I like have a separate drive entirely, it means you can also move drives to new computers. Chop and change and remove and upgrade will still maintaining what you have easier. Never been a big fan of partitioning a drive for an OS as well

Also the slower M.2 I selected is more than capable and still lightening quick compared to anything that can be thrown at it. It'll certainly never be a hinderance

As for spinny RGB goodness the 5000X would be a great choice for £13 more, it's the same case with a different front panel but upgraded with 3 front RGB fans. For a cheaper option the 465X is there as well

Thanks for all your advice dude. Do you work for PCSpec cause you're going to make me spend more money :)

I was looking at the below monitor which I think would work well with that 3070 any thoughts on that? I will be running 3 monitors. Looking for one good gaming monitor and 2 normal ones just for working. Budget well-stretched at this point lol

Also for the 5000DA if you contact PCspecialist you can ask them to replace the two stock fans with RGB ones, at a cost ofc. But it's an option. Could even ask them to populate all the empty fan slots (the 5000 series have an option for side fan mounting). I'm waiting on an build in the 5000DA so I can't attest to noise/performance yet but I assume having all 3 front slots populated at least would be recommended.

If you go with the 5000X you get the 3 RGB fans at the front included but a glass front panel which will affect airflow. You can, however, purchase the mesh panel separately for like ~£15 and swap the glass out if airflow is a concern.

I don't but commission would be nice haha

I have that exact monitor actually for a 3060Ti and really like

I'd honestly recommend an IPS monitor over an VA though. The G5 is a VA panel and although I think it's fantastic the IPS offer better image and colour quality.

If you let us know how much you're spending on a monitor we can help recommend one

Probably about £300 on the good one. A little wiggle room but not much.

I dunno if you were gonna opt for this or not but now I have the system I wouldn't recommend. I can't control the chassis fans with qfan or armoury crate so they're just at 100% constantly.

Sorry dude I didn't even see your message above.

I was considering the 5000X but I hate hate hate the ICUE software which I think is what you need to control the corsair RGB stuff. Is that what you're having problems with?

Ah no the rgb is great but the fans only come with the lighting node so icue can't control their speed. Armoury crate was suggested but it seems to only identify one of the 7 fans (and as a CPU fan at that). The rest just run at 100% constantly. Just something to watch out for if you're considering the extra fans.

The fans likely just haven't been configured correctly, if you open a thread we can help out.
