How do you think this will perform?

Logic is brilliant. I was actually looking at getting an iMac to use that instead. But for the price of an iMac, you can build a monster of a PC.

You’ve got me convinced going to nVidia, I deffo prefer them, as I know they work, I just didn’t know how the freesync/g sync crossover worked.

Yeah, Macs have really lost their way now unfortunately until they’re stable on Apple silicon. I do think then they’ll be competitive again, but at the moment you’re just paying a huge premium for poor performance.

The Mac mini is the only one that’s worth it nowadays, but even that is stuck on 8th gen i7’s which means quad core which is really poor. As soon as they refresh that to something more modern I may consider it, but I’m heavily leaning to moving to Ableton Live which is just as good as logic these days.

I do love DAW stuff, no end to the fun!!!

Its shocking the price of their kit, and like you say, the age of the tech going inside. There’s no question they work, and they’re stable, but in terms of power, no contest.

I’ve been producing for a couple years now, but stagnated recently with my laptop not being able to keep up with my productions lol. Spire is a brilliant synth, but kills my cpu with 4 or 5 sounds running 😂

What CPU have you currently got?

Yeah, honestly this build with the 3900x will just drop your jaw onto the flaw, it’s insanely powerful!

I honestly can’t wait. I’m trying to time my order/delivery for when I’m off work for a couple weeks. Lead time is long at the min, understandable though.

Going to go nVidia, if my monitor has issues when I get it sorted, I’ll sell and get one that will work. I go for a 32” for doing music production too, like to see what I’m doing clearly 😂

Monitor will be fine, it's fully supported with NVidia cards.

I'm really excited for you, and slightly jealous! I've been holding off upgrading to Ryzen until the 4000 CPU's are released, originally it was the 3000 series, but haven't had enough cash.

They're just incredible CPU's, just wonderful! It's made computers exciting again!

Ive never had anything other than Intel from day one. So it’ll be an impressive change by all accounts.

I know what you mean with the series 4, by all accounts they were supposed to be announced by now, but everything has been put back. I was hoping it might be out By the time I ordered one. Initially to lower the price of series 3, but, I know what I’m like, I’d have just spent the same on on series 4 ha!!

I’ll let you know how I get on, and if you ever want to hear the type of track I release, give me a shout 🙂

And again, thank you 😊

One thing I thought might be worth mentioning: If you look into Latency and AMD, you may find some mentions of latency issues on the 3900 chips (the lower chips seem to have been resolved but there are still quesion marks on the 3900s). it may not be enough to be an issue but I thought it might be worth noting. I'll try and find the information when I come back on in the morning as I had a discussion about this with someone else in another thread.
Latency is only really relevant for live recording, outside of that, it's not a factor.

But yes, the latency on any AMD is like literally nano seconds, it's completely unnoticeable to anyone using it, except for perhaps extreme live recording, but TBH, even then I don't think it's going to be a factor.

Fair enough...you know music stuff more than me given you use music related software etc....it was just the specific latency on the 3900x (over and above normal AMD latency)...they mention it here when testing some Ryzen chips:

Audio bench Ryzen testing

And the 3900x specifically, their DAWBench testing showed: " With the first round of testing as noted up top, I used Cubase 10 initially for the DAWBench VI testing and everything looked great right up until the final test. On the 3900X I saw a 20% performance drop at 64 buffer with 90% of the CPU being used at maximum load and 128 gave me 85% – 95% with the full CPU being leveraged at the 256 buffer and above mirroring the low buffer latency we’ve seen in previous generations."
It's also that that was in July 2019 which was still when Ryzen 3000 was in it's infancy. AMD have done amazing stuff working very closely with Microsoft and hardware partners (as well as Linux kernel and various other entities) to further optimise the chips and motherboards.

There's a good summary from this year here from Scan Pro Audio:

@marcap Sorry, I have made an error on the config, the RAM really should be 3600MHz, it won't be much more. You may have to call PCS to ask for it as I don't believe it's available in the configurator.
