How badly have I messed up?

Hi guys,

Hope all is well!
I've placed an order which is currently in the pre-production stage. I was hoping not to alter or cancel anything to avoid any unnecessary hassle for PCS, esp during Covid. However, I'm worried that I have selected a bad part or that the build wont work (the case for example).
Really hoping someone could advise on any major flaws with the PC?
I've read almost everyone advising against the case I selected (PCS SR-819 RGB FULL TOWER CASE) - you'll also notice a lot of RGB, the build will be placed in our living room (so I want it to look pretty) and we have a young son that I'd like to get into the PC gaming scene!

Budge:
This build was approx £1,500, not including monitors

Usage:

Word processing & most office programs, multi tab internet browsing/researching and presentation creation. No rendering or video processing.
Games; Overwatch, Rainbow6, World of Warcraft - Was hoping to introduce VR to the family. Would this build support VR?

The system would be paired with dual MSI Optix G27C4, 165Hz, 1ms - hoping to go up to 3 in future.

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,

You can amend parts without affecting the build time, it's just a case of PCS swapping the part boxes, they won't actually be unboxed at all until it enters the build phase, they're just allocated to the build, so it's not a major deal. It's more important that you get the right build.

The CPU bugs me, it's worth getting the 9900k for the significantly increased clock speeds. Just seems odd to limit the performance for such a small increase in cost.

You've got a very slow primary drive, an M2 NVME drive would be the standard these days at around 7 times the speeds. SATA SSD's are only really used for storage or real budget builds these days.

On a build like this I would want to see a TXm model PSU at the very least, and I'd probably up it to 750W so it could take any GPU upgrade in the future. The RMx model is a price increase, but significantly reduced noise as it's semi passive so the fans only come on when it's under load.

The cooler isn't adequate for the CPU, you'd need a minimum of the H100i Platinum on the 9900 / k

The case is probably not the greatest for cooling, but if you had the H100i, that's slightly mitigated as the airflow is more specifically directed outside the case.

It's a lovely screen, I'm a huge fan of the MSI's and that one in particular. If you haven't already bought it, a few places have it on sale atm at £350

Whilst on this topic, is Pre-Production literally just them collecting the parts? Why can it take so long (if everything is in stock)?

I'm making amendments just now..
Upgraded to 9900k.
The M2 NVME/SSD/HDD's & speeds confuse me - could you recommend a faster drive? Or could I just move the current one into the M2 slot?
Would liquid cooling definitely be the best choice? I was hoping to avoid liquid cooling as fan's seem easier replaceable and if they fail, it would be less catastrophic

edit; I have also upgraded power supply to 750w RMx Gold Ultra quiet

It just allocates the parts ready for build, but it's in the queue awaiting building as there are hundreds of builds being done every day.

If you remove the 1st Storage Drive entirely, then there should be an extra section for M2 SSD 1, in there the samsung is the fastest drive but comes at a premium, or the Intel would probably be my budget choice as it's not much more expensive than the PCS, but has improved speeds.

As a brief explanation, the SATA SSD you had originally configured is 560mbs Read / 540mbs write.
The Intel M2 is 1800mbs Read / 1800mbs write.

So huge difference. The samsung is almost double the performance and worth it if you can push the budget that far but it is quite a significant price increase.

That CPU puts out an awful lot of heat. AIO's aren't as scary as you may assume, especially the i series as they can be monitored through software with a program called iCue (also by corsair). In there you can monitor temperatures, pump speeds, adjust fan speeds and lights, but also you can set alarms and auto shutdowns if any of the readings go below a certain threshold. If you did want an air cooler, go with the Noctua.

Even if there were a leak, it's a non conductive coolant, so wouldn't damage the internals at all, just would make a bit of a mess. But there are almost zero cases of leaks these days and very few pump failures. They're so reliable, I've had the H100i running in my server for around 6 years now and it's been on 24/7 and I've never had an issue.
