High RAM/memory usage

Hi,

I hope someone might be able to help me. I've noticed that Antimalware Service Executable is constantly using up around 300mb of RAM (i have 16GB) and wondered if that is normal and what is going on? Screenshot below. I've tried turning the process off and it doesn't allow me to, tried turning it off under settings - virus and threat protection and doesn't seem to make any difference. It may be totally normal but seems like a lot to be used constantly? Also curious as to what all the iCloud Tray Icon > Microsoft Edge Webview2 processes are as I don't use MS Edge!

Many thanks

The antimalware service executable is your antivirus, the one built into Windows. You need it and that's a reasonable amount of RAM for it to use.

The iCloud tray icon is I presume something to do with iCloud; it's webviews, which are when a program embeds a small portion of a web browser to render a page inside another program. I'm not familiar with iCloud, but I imagine that's how its Windows client works.

None of this seems surprising to me. If you're bumping up against the 16GB you have, maybe there are things you could do (the easiest being "buying another 16GB for £45 or so") but if you aren't actually having problems, you don't have problems you need to worry about solving.

@sck451 really appreciate your response and explaining it to me. Safe to say I value the protection is gives so won’t be turning it off but just wanted to check it seemed a normal amount to be using. Thanks again.

Definitely normal. Mine's a little lower, but I doubt it's significant.
