I wouldn’t buy a current laptop, new updated models are just about to be released.
But screens are now 1440p which you’d need a minimum of a 5070 to power so your budget needs to be significantly higher for a gaming laptop.

Laptops are more expensive than desktops and for less power

The one you've specced isn’t designed for gaming, more for hardware accelerated image processing

For a high-end gaming laptop, you would need to be spending at least double that price.

To know what exactly is required, we need to know their maximum budget. Also, does it have to be a laptop? Is there a particular reason for it...just that you get better value from a desktop.

Finally, I'd recommend your friend creating an account and posting directly. The problem with people asking for specs for other people is that it can get confusing with the person posting not knowing answers to questions etc...it's just much easier to discuss with the person directly

He doesnt have a maximum budget at the moment, its just feeling out what the cost would be for something that would be powerful enough to run games at high settings honestly.

He would love to get a desktop instead but cant as he just outright doesn't have the space for it, I thought a laptop would be a good way to get him into the PC space in the meantime.

So you’d need something over £2.5k for a decent powered device at 1440p

But don’t buy any of the current models, wait for the next gen laptops in a few weeks

what about just for running games at a regular 1080p, 60hz? would this bring down the cost or would you still need a much higher budget?
1080p doesn’t exist on custom gaming laptops anymore, they’re all 1440p, at least 144hz, most now 240hz

1080p is very much a dead resolution and worth avoiding anyway as no need to lower the gaming experience with todays hardware
