Have you tried 'Media Player Classic'? Available from CNET downloads I believe (free). Its played a wide range of formats for me in the past, never tried with Blu Ray though.

It wont wont play blu-ray disks,Ive tried all the free ones mentioned plus a lot more, none of them can do it.
It's all down to DRM,and they have it all pretty secure.
If anyone can find a free blu-ray player that works on any windows OS,I'll give them lots of reppies. :)

Pay the piper!

It worked for me anyways. Installed it, no spyware or viruses detected by Bullguard or Malwarebytes (i am blocking it from the internet though to be sure), first attempted play of Departed gave me an error code 300 (i think maybe because cyberlink loaded up when i inserted the blu ray causing a conflict?), closed it down, re-opened, voila. Looks like its just a straight up player, I can't find an option to get into the Blu Ray menu in order to watch extras etc. Does pick up subs though. Not really messed about with it fully, about to get my game on...Hopefully this helps someone though.

Thanks Jedimaca! Totally forgot about VLC having the ability to play BlueRays. All sorted now. Will post up instructions on how I got it working. Think PC Specialist should maybe look into it, not sure if they can get the latest software or not, but if it wasn't for VLC I'd be stuck. It's a shame I can't give you a thumbs up for the help. Enjoy your laptop when it comes.

Just to note. VLC does NOT play blu ray. I didnt recieve a cyberlink disc when I recieved my laptop and as an avid user of vlc i wasnt fussed. Tried to start up a blu ray, doesnt work. Added the plug in still doesnt work, and as they say it does not support certain types of blu ray which seems to be all the ones I own haha.

Hi there.
I managed to get VLC to play my Blue Rays.

I'm using Windows 8 Pro - 64bit version.

I was getting the message.

"Blu-Ray error:
This Blu-Ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it."

Uninstall any previous versions of VLC Player.

Download the 64 bit version from the direct link here - http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VLC-media-player

Then download the two files here -http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ (Make sure to download the 64bit .dll file. I downloaded the 32 bit by accident)

Unhide your files so that within Users you can see 'AppData'. Within AppData go into the Roaming folder, creat a folder called 'aacs' and paste the keys database file there.

Then go into where you installed your VLC media player and paste the 'libaacs.dll' file (paste it in both program files & program files (x86) this is how I think I got mines working. Then simply go into VLC and choose the media but make sure to check the box that says not to display menus.

Hope that helps.

What is your error saying?

Mines was talking about not having the necessary libraries. So I added the .dll file to VLC within program files (x86) and still got the message so on the off chance I also tried adding it to the VLC folder within just the normal program files and it worked. They also say that you should make sure your hide menu's box is checked. Hope it helps.

Finally got it working on VLC, well to a degree. Basically I'm an idiot, and just assumed that when I went into the Roaming file and saw VLC file I should put the AACS folder in there. Tried putting it just in the roaming folder and it plays... BUT I can't play it in full screen. It plays in a weird mode where it shoves the windows bar off the top, but when I throw it over to my tv It shows it and I can't get rid of it.
