Hello,
I'm looking for help with a build with a budget of approx £1k. Main use will be number crunching, programming, and playing around with pen-testing/capture-the-flag stuff. I'm not really a PC gamer so gaming isn't a priority, but ideally it would cope with say 5 year old games and be able to stream TV shows on one monitor while working on another.
I'd like a decent amount of RAM as I'll sometimes use Virtual Machines and other RAM-intensive programs.
I don't like running low on storage and will sometimes have multiple Operating Systems installed in different partitions so would like to maximise disk space as well.
I see the configuration page lets me add two storage drives on top of an M2. I assume this means that if I buy one with M2 it will have space for me to add at least two drives of my own? I'll probably add at least one if so.
I don't need it to come with Windows. I'll be installing Linux which is what I'll mainly use, but will likely add a Windows partition or drive at some point.
My main monitor is LG 21:9 UltraWide 25UM57. I have a second VGA monitor which I'll probably replace with something better in the future, but I'm undecided on what it would be.
My current attempt is below. I've left some of the options at default. I have no idea about cases and wasn't sure which one the FAQ was recommending. Is it worth changing the PSU, especially if I'm intending to add an extra drive? Is a USB-C port something I'm likely to wish I had in a few years? Any particular reason to choose one brand of SSD over another?
