Help with £1250 build

Hi everyone,

This is my first ever gaming PC and I've read all the recommended guides and taken them into account. I've had a stab at making my own build but I'm sure it can be improved.
I'll be playing on a 1080p 144hz monitor (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08CZF838K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
I'll be playing a large variety of different games such as CSGO, Valorant, Valheim, Escape from tarkov, Soulsborne series etc.
The maximum budget I'm aiming for is £1250 however if it goes slightly over with a significantly improved build then it's no big deal. I won't be needing WiFi since I'll be plugging an ethernet cable in.

I also have a few questions that I'm unsure of.
1. I have quite a thick carpet so would it be okay to place a PC on the ground without airflow being hindered or would it be best to make space on my desk, however, it'll be in the view of the sun (not like it's out much anyway :ROFLMAO:)
2. I've picked the lowest speed RAM, is there a significant difference between the slower and faster RAM?
3. I've picked a 2TB HDD since ill be playing a variety of games. I know SSDs are faster, however, how significant will the loading times be affected? Would it be better to pick a 1TB SSD and add extra storage down the line?
4. Would it be possible to do a dual monitor setup with my 144hz for gaming and my old monitor for browsing? I have this BENQ 60hz monitor packed away (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CFFFGUM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
5. I'm unsure about the sound levels of the fans, do I need to select any components/case to make it quieter, or will they be at an acceptable level? Will I be able to hear them over my headset?

The build I've come up with:

Hi there! Thanks for all the info! I'll go through the build I'd recommend then the questions you have.

The build you've got here is a really great start! Personally, I prefer the Corsair 220T as it comes with 3 included fans instead of 2 and in my opinion looks better, although if you'd like to save the £2-3, the Lian Li is still a good option. I've upgraded to the TUF motherboard as it's a more gaming oriented board compared to the Prime which is more for home and office PC use. AMD loves fast RAM so I've swapped to a 3200mhz kit. For storage, it's very easy down the line so personally I'd go for the 1TB SSD now and add it as you need it. I also noticed the SSD was a SATA drive not an M.2. The M.2 will give significantly faster speeds for little price increase. I've upgraded to a larger RMx850W PSU as it's the gold standard for the PSU's we recommend. It'll allow for more upgrades and let the system run more comfortably. That takes the build to a smidge over your £1250 budget!

Question time!
1) a PC is fine on the carpet, just make sure you're cleaning the fans and dusting the inside every month or so (just like you would anyway) If you really want it off the ground, you could buy a monitor riser for your PC. I have this one and it's great!
2) As explained, AMD loves fast RAM so it's important you pick a high speed kit. 3200 is a great sweetspot between speed and price
3) This video will explain all! As long as it's on SSD, the speeds aren't affected too much, just make sure they aren't on Hard Drives!
4) Yup! this is totally possible! The 1660S will have multiple outputs meaning you can plug in multiple monitors, a 2nd monitor is always very useful. Just make sure you prioritise Display Port for your main monitor
5) I can't answer this 100% as I haven't heard it, but I do know that the fans in the Corsair case recommended are very high quality so I doubt they'll produce much noise, especially when wearing a headset. I know @NoddyPilot and I believe @AgentCooper has this case so they will be able to give you a more accurate account

I hope this was helpful!

Solid build from @JUNI0R there, as usual 🙂👍

I do indeed have the iCue 220T and it is a belter for a smaller form case. Fan profiles can be adjusted to suit the load you’re placing on the system so they’ll only need to be noisy if you’re really pushing things.

However, I’m using it with the H100i RGB Platinum cooler so I’ve got a great airflow situation to play with.

With the above suggested build you’ve got three case fans doing the intake and the single stock cooler fan pushing it out, that doesn’t leave you with much of an exhaust situation. So with it’s larger footprint and fan placement the Lian Li Lancool II would actually be the better proposition for consistency when it comes to moving the air through the system.

Hi folks. I have the 220T as the gang say. Personally I think it’s like a sieve when it comes to airflow and does a fantastic job. My personal experience playing with it is that the exhaust fan setup doesn’t impact the results much at all - as long as a decent amount of air is being pumped in to start with.

But from all I have looked into I actually think the noisiest bit - no matter what case you stick it in - will be the standard cooler. It is rated for the TDP of the CPU only and nothing more. This means it will be working fairly hard to keep the 5600X cool and with its relatively small diameter added to the mix you will have high RPM during operation.

An average tower air cooler will be rated for more than twice the TDP - an AIO three times or more - which means they don’t work as hard. Add in bigger fans on these options which don’t have to spin as fast to get the job done and the noise levels drop dramatically.

For me, if you’re worried about noise, then avoid the standard cooler no matter what case you pop it in.

The video you recommended was helpful. I've tweaked my build slightly by adding another SSD; I understand it's better to have an SSD for games storage and one to run the OS. Is this fine for my build? I'll be playing a variety of games so I'll have quite a lot of games installed so will the OS performance suffer if I use a singular SSD for both OS and game storage?
Also, I've changed from standard cooling, however, I'm not too sure which cooler would be sufficient to reduce noise levels. I don't need it to be completely silent but I don't want it too loud either. I can increase my budget to accommodate this change.

2nd SSD is a great idea! It'll also mean if you need to re-install windows for any reason, you don't also have to re-install your whole game library too.

For CPU cooling, the Cooler Master 240 AIO is what we'd recommend for the 5600X. We don't recommend the PCS ones as the quality of them is hit and miss. If you're upgrading the cooler, a lot of people on the forum say to skip air cooling go straight for a liquid AIO, the CM240 is a great cooler for the price and will comfortably handle the 5600X

Will the liquid cooling hinder my ability to upgrade components in the future? I've heard from friends that if you make a small mistake when taking parts out a leak can ruin the rest of the system. That's the only concern I have with liquid cooling

I believe you're thinking of a liquid cooled build, that uses liquid to cool most of the parts. An AIO in an enclosed loop that cools just the CPU and requires no more maintenence than a tower cooler (just need to clean the fans every month or so). Taking apart your build with an AIO is perfectly fine and requires no real extra precautions.

Damage can happen in shipping so you'll want to check for leaks when you first turn the PC on and when you put the CPU under load for the first time. If you have no leaks then, you'll be good to go!

I believe you're thinking of a liquid cooled build, that uses liquid to cool most of the parts. Yeah, I thought they were the same thing, thanks for clarifying. I'll definitely make sure to check everything over.

Thanks for the help everyone :D
