Help required for sons first gaming pc

Hi all,

I am looking at getting my son a pc for Christmas and using a gpu that I have from previous upgrade. What I am hoping to do is get him a good base with the potential of perhaps adding a gpu upgrade later on.
Budget would be up to 1k but would like to keep it down if possible!

For the monitor I will be giving him a MSI 2560x1440 IPS 165HZ Freesync/G-Sync gaming monitor. I also have a 3060 gpu card that I plan on using and then possibly upgrading this at a later in the year, when funds are available!

The pc will be used mainly for playing older games and general use, I also need it to have a lot of storage as he saves a lot of videos/pictures

I’m not sure if the above would work any advice would be greatly appreciated? I have been looking at some of pc builds for around £1300 and then taking the gpu out. Is this a good idea?

I would not need any headphones mice or keyboards etc just the desktop

What GPU do you already have?

The going rate for current gen components (considering new GPUs are around the corner) are about:
  • £1750 for 1080p
  • £2100 for 1440p
  • £2600 for 4k/2160p
If you take off the cost of a GPU for these resolutions, then you're looking at:
  • £1450 for 1080p
  • £1550 for 1440p
  • £1700 for 4k/2160p

Hi,

thanks for replying: as above I currently have a 3060 card that I was planning to use, think its a GeForce 12 gb o.c

He would be happy playing on medium settings on the above monitor, not sure if that is possible on the budget though!
