Just been sent a replacement Edimax wireless card BUT for some reason it wont fit in the slot where the original Edimax card went. would appreciate some advice TIA.
Have you compared the cards' connections to see they are exactly the same, as there are two types of cards (PCI and PCI-E). Maybe you have a different card, if so, see if you have another slot of the correct type or ask to be sent another card.
Thanks for reply. Just checked the cards - the original and replacement are both exactly the same so if the original fitted I dont understand why the replacement wont
Try connecting the old one, just to check the motherboard connections are not damaged (fingers crossed). If that one goes in ok, then have a close look at the new card :detective: to check the connections (gold fingers) all look ok. If it looks fine, then give it another go.
Take your time and make sure you're applying even pressure on the card and that it's going in nice and straight.
Gold fingers for both cards are fine and now that I've removed the old one, I cant get it back in either!
the external casing for the slot has a series of "holes" in the metal and the sticking point is in lining up the aerial with these holes which just isnt happening
Aerials are disconnected. cant get the edimax wireless card to fit into the slots because the casing which has loads of air vent type holes are preventing me from slotting the card in to the relevant part of the motherboard. Cant fit the aerials until I've sorted everything else.
There should be nothing stopping you installing the new card into the same slot the old one came out from,
as the plate will already have been removed.
Well, if the new card is exactly the same size (length etc) as the old one, then it must fit if the old one did.
How far away are you from it fitting? Is it just like a millimetre or something, if so, maybe you need to push the rear panel of the casing out a bit to give yourself that tiny bit of extra room you need. I would suggest 'practising' with the old card first and see how you get on. If it came out, it has to go back in.
It's some kind of grating on the main casing which seems to be fixed by small metal hinges to the casing and I cant seem to find any way of releasing it to give me the necessary space to fix either the old or the new edimax wireless card in to the m/b wireless slot. I think that what must come out must surely go back in but really this is defeating me and I'm anxious about breaking something. Both wireless cards seem to be identical in all respects, ie shape, size, gold fingers, the lot.
the holes I'm referring to in the casing are slightly bigger than the screw fittings for the Edimax aerials. There are two gratingson these bays with similar sorts of holes along the entire length. Hope that's clear and thanks for your time.
Photo 3 is where the edimax wireless card is supposed to go. But the screw fittings for the aerials take up too much space and prevent me from fixing the card in to the wireless card's slot.
where do I find the case manual? as things are, I need an extra 1cm +/- space to manipulate it. Goodness only knows how the engineer put it together unless the case was removed first which is the only way I can see as being possible to fit this wireless card. AND I'm none too keen about removing the other side panel which is where the m/b and fan are fitted.
Time to hit the hay. And there was me naiively thinking this would be a job for the boys!!
