Help building a gaming/graphic design PC

Hi all,

I've had my current PC for well over 8 years now, I've just started getting to the point where my graphics card isn't meeting the minimum on many games.

It's time to build a new PC but I don't really know what I need. I don't want to research every graphics card out there if someone already knows what's best. I'd like a cooling unit of some kind and to build a PC around the 1K mark that can run games at high quality but also enough processing power for high-quality photo editing and catalogue design. I haven't bought the new Xbox as of yet and quite frankly don't think it's worth it if I buy a gaming PC instead.

Could someone recommend a build or at least some components to consider that's great for both gaming and using programs like Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator?

Thanks! :)

We can only recommend a PCSpecialist build which comes fully built.

But that budget is not going to get you much.

Prices are quite literally the highest they've ever been due to various factors, Covid, staff shortages, logistics nightmares around the world, silicon shortage, brexit, you name it, it's all hit at once, literally couldn't make it up.

As such a very entry level 1080p system will set you back around £1200 for anything half decent.

So not the best time to purchase a PC? 😅

I knew about graphics cards being an issue months ago but didn’t realise it was still on going..

I was looking for a PCSpecialist build, I’m happy to take any recommendations even half decent. However, if I’m better off waiting a year then I’d do that as well.

We can recommend something but not at that budget? If you're able to up it to around £1300 then we can advise further.

My guess is that you could probably be quite happy with the 1650 Super rather than the 3060. If you're happy buying it elsewhere and fitting it yourself, you could pick it up for around £250 – that's madly expensive for the card, but much cheaper than anything else on offer right now.

Of those PCS stocks, the 3060 is the best option, though, so do go for that if you can handle the extra money and don't want to mess around buying and fitting your own graphics card...

Thank you @jamiephillips909 for your suggestions! Are there any coolants you'd recommend? I'm not very knowledgeable in that department.

I'm happy to fit my own card but also happy to go for the 3060 if it's the best option. I think I deserve it after putting up with a 1GB card for the past decade haha. Appreciate the suggestion and extra affirmation!

Amd standard cpu cooler is fine for the 5600x but could always go for CoolerMaster MasterLiquid Lite 120 the 240 option was better but hasnt been available on pc specialist for quite a while
I prefer corsair coolers personally but with budget restraints the coolmaster lite is a good option
