Help before I purchase

Hi all,

I am looking for a gaming PC, one that can do 4K, 60FPS. I have a monitor for that already. I have picked a few things below but am very limited in my own knowledge. You will notice there is not a graphics card, I am waiting for the 3080 to release and to buy that separately. My budget was around the 2100 mark, which this spec + the graphics card reach. I have no need for a WIFI card as I use Ethernet only. Please let me know if there is anything you would change!

Hi there! There’s a few things I might change but some of those are dependent on if you’re planning on playing flight sims. If you’re not you can definitely drop the RAM down to 16GB and have it higher speed, which I’ve done in my tweak. You could raise the CPU to a twelve core if you’re a flight simmer and potentially lower it if you’re not. As it is, I’ve just left your original choice, it’s a super chip.

I’ve changed the cooler to the premium Corsair one which would negate the need for the extra (cheap and noisy) case fans. It also comes with a high quality thermal paste so there’s no need to pay the extra for the Arctic stuff. You’ve picked a lovely case so you shouldn’t need any extra fans with that cooler.

Lastly, I’ve changed your browser because I hate Chrome 😁👍

Thanks for taking the time out to have a look. Good to see I wasn't too far off with my ideas!

I am not a flight simmer at all. I actually was thinking of the 3700X rather than the 3800XT as that chip performs very well and doesn't cost as much and I would probably lose 1-2% performance. Since i'm capping at 60FPS anyway, I don't think I would need a 3800XT? I was just worried about future proofing.

Your CPU should in theory last you the lifespan of your gaming rig. Most games are still absolutely fine on around six cores. Eight cores should see you right for the foreseeable future so the 3700x is a good shout. I originally chose that for mine but due to fluctuations in pricing, the 3800x was only £6 more expensive so that’s the one I went with 😁

An extra luxury you could have is to add a second smaller M.2 drive of around 500GB and use that as your boot and program drive. That way you can store your games on the larger one and not have to download them all over again if you need to do a clean install. Not a necessity but it’s a little bonus.

Now I’ll admit straight up that I’m not the most educated on all things 4K but I suspect the 3080 will destroy 60Hz/FPS, looks like you’ll have a solid platform for any eventual visual upgrades.

I’m sure one of the forum superbrains will see this thread in the morning and potentially tweak it a little bit further for you 😁👍

We love you Ukraine
If you're capped at 4k 60Hz, there's absolutely no point to the 3080, the 3070 would be more appropriate and still overpowered.
