Awwww spit! They have run out of those cases in black. White only - which feels like an odd choice to me. Serves me right for prevaricating. Would you recommend that case over every other, or is there something else in the price range that might be worth getting instead. I have already exceeded my budget by getting the RAM so I guess another few quid is not going to break me.... or suck it up and get white?

Another option is to dual boot or do a windows VM, install iCue and set your devices, then save the settings locally to the device itself so it runs that way in Linux. That's the approach I've taken.
Mind you, running in a VM is a good idea if software will have access to the layers it needs - one of my use cases is a VM for windows for MS related work stuff.

The selection is quite limited at the moment, as I think the Corsair 4000/5000 series cases are going through a refresh...and the 2500/3500/6500 were only release last year.
You could go for a 6500X, but you'd need a 3 x RX120 iCUE LINK (black) fan kit to put in the bottom/side of the case as it only comes with a single exhaust fan.
Alternatively - and this is what I did to get my 6500X case 6 months before it was available on here - you can order a black 3500X from another retailer and get it delivered to PCS, as part of the 'send in your own case' option...
If you do send your own in, then ensure you know whether it comes with 0 fans, 3 RS fans or 3 RX iCUE LINK fans. The version with the RS fans is cheaper and is what PCSpecialist supplies, so you could pay the extra for the RX version and have the correct matching fans yo your Corsair cooler.
For example:
3500X RGB with 3 x RS120 fans (about £100-£120)

PCS prices tend to be cheaper though (larger order, bigger discount, no middleman profit), so there is a small downside.

Well, white case with black internals can look good...but I find white finishes all tend to age differently (whether it's painted, anodised, or just different white plastics) and you end up with a multi-white coloured case.
But if you do, then you'll get white fans as that's what's included, so it won't look as bad as fitting black components into a white case. You can also completely rebuild it with white RAM, cooler, motherboard if you want to go that far...but component choice is more limited.
Forget that, just seen there's no equivalent white motherboard or RAM.

Thanks for that. The newer board (need to check linux compatibility) and higher spec power supply are plusses, but the slower RAM is a negative. So many choices and decisions. I am told that some people like this process!

@TonyCarter Just an update, I went for the white case, 64G 6000 ram, everything else as you originally suggested. The white motherboard (there used to be one) was 6 layer instead of 8. The PC won't be a prime display item - so colour is not really an issue. I hear what you say about showing dirt and stains more, but I can live with that for now.

Literally means absolutely nothing, it's pure marketing. You can have 1 layer quite happily, doesn't affect performance in any way whatsoever.

Did you swap to all white, or is it a black motherboard you're happy with?
If colour doesn't matter (and layers don't) then any of the Gigabyte B650/B870/B870E (not M versions as they're smaller) and if they're too expensive then the Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus or X870-Plus will suffice...and the motherboards come in and out of stock all the time, so what I suggest now may not be available in an hour so.
