Headphone Jack Issue

Hi there. The headphone jack for my laptop is giving me concern. I use in-ear headphones whilst gaming and have recently noticed an almost-rhythmic 'popping' sound in both earpieces. I've also noticed an unusual 'fizzing' sound coming from the hardware area where the jack is located, although only once or twice and it doesn't seem to last. I'm pretty certain that I received a small static/electric shock from the headphone on my fingers the other day too, so I have desisted from using them or the jack. I don't believe the headphones are the issue as I use them in other devices and they seem fine in those.

This issue started very suddenly only a week or so ago and I'm not aware of any liquid or substances that could've leaked into the hardware, or any damage it may have sustained.

Any advice on what the issue could be related to and what to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That certainly sounds hardware related to me. The 'fizzing' sound certainly doesn't sound good. Is everything else working OK on the laptop?

I would phone PCS pretty soon (and be prepared for a long wait) and talk this over with them. I suspect they'll want to RMA it....

do you have any other headphone to test? Just to make sure that PCS will not plug another different model and the issue might not happen

I'd personally try the following if I were you:
  • Check if the problem persists with other headphones
  • If you get a "pop" sound, open Realtek Audio Console > Power Management > Uncheck "Power Management Enabled"
If neither of those solve it, then you'll probably have to RMA your laptop to get the headphone jack replaced. I have to RMA mine as well for the same reason eventually. However, if you don't want to send it back, I've been using a USB external sound adapter for the last few months as a temporary fix. External USB Sound Adapter

It's really cheap and does a good enough job for the time being.
