HDMI vs DVI

So my Graphics Card, the 4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1650 has 2 ports, a HDMI and a DVI port.
I currently have a HDMI connected to my AOC 23.8" 24B2XDAM - 1920 x 1080,4MS, D-Sub, DVI-D, HDMI monitor.

I know HDMI is better, but how much better than DVI?
Would it make a noticeable difference when playing games, and colour on my monitor?

You see I want to free up my HDMI port so I can hook up my pc to my TV for when I want to play games, as its going to be more comfortable on my sofa than on my chair.

I do have a LOGITECH S150 2.0 BLACK SPEAKER SYSTEM which I use instead of my monitor speakers and want to use my tv built in speakers when playing my pc games on my tv.

I would like everyone's opinion and experience on this.

DVI is extremely old and completely superseded a long time ago. it would likely be DVI-D which means it’s highly limited in refresh rate above 1080p

Its no use these days.

HDMI is also inferior to Display Port. HDMI is more catered to multimedia systems and consoles.

For any Kind of pc with decent frame rates you’d always use DP

That monitors isn’t a gaming monitor though and also very old so it’s never going to be a good gaming experience as it's got no variable refresh so you'll get lots of screen tearing and it’s capped at 75fps

I'm not saying this to put a downer on you in any way shape or form, we all start out somewhere and at least you're gaming! The point is just to inform you that when the next upgrade time comes, there is far more performance on the table, obviously matched by budget.

A solution would be to get a DP to HDMI cable for the pc to monitor, that would leave the HDMI free for your TV

I only seen 2 ports (HDMI, DVI) but no DP.

I know my pc could do with upgrading, but I was working on a tight budget with upgradability in mind, and looking at upgrading ram and graphics card.

My current set up plays most of my games at full setting and some games at normal and 1 or 2 games with a custom config to balance playability and looks.

I'm looking at getting a longer HDMI cable to hook it to my tv so I can play on my sofa.
But don't like the idea of swapping cables as I only have 1 HDMI port on the graphics card.

That's not possible on a 1650, they all had DP as the primary port. Any GPU since about 2015 has had DP as the primary.

But even at 1080p that card just doesn’t have enough VRAM and flat out will not play a lot of newer titles.

The only way that would be possible is if you're actually using your motherboard graphics ports? Can you post a photo of the back of the PC with the cables connected?

The GDDR6 version of the 1650 came with 3 ports (DP, HDMI and DVI)...however, the GDDR5 version only came with a HDMI and DVI, no DP..at least, according to the NVIDIA website:

From my understanding of your post OP, you are basically going to use the TV anytime you want to play games and just use your monitor for everything else, yes? If that's the case, then I'd just get a DVI to HDMI cable for the monitor which then frees up the HDMI port for the TV

I've just done that and it all works well.

After buying the cables I've noticed a lot of options for a new computer monitor for gaming that's affordable.
But if I'm going to that, I will want a gaming chair or something that's so stable and comfortable.

Anyone got any recommendation for a new computer chair that will be just as comfortable as a sofa, with the flexibility of a computer chair?

Get a nursing chair. That thing was more comfortable than any gaming chair I've sat in

It's got a soft rock too which is perfect when you're losing the will to live over a difficult task.
