HDD Caddy Bay

Hi,

Just got a Vortex IV 15.6"... I ordered it with a SDD drive and a 2nd/3rd HDD HARD DRIVE OPTICAL BAY CADDY...

My question is how do I get access to the caddy ?

It has what looks like a DVD bay but is I assume a blank cover for the caddy bay. There is what looks like a DVD eject button but its clearly a moulded fixed plastic part of the cover. I press it but its fixed and appears to have no function. So is this a bay cover which I can extract ? If so do I just prise it out to get access to the bay or is there some method of taking the cover off the slot that I can't work out ? It doens't look as if there are screws.

There doesn't appear to be any guidance in the manual so if anyone has any instructions or info I'd be grateful.

Thanks,

Hi there,

I've just gone through the same process and taken some pictures to help you out :)

Flip the notebook so you can access the 2 screws to release the hard drive compartment

For easiness I take the HDD out as well so it doesn't get in the way

Once you remove the screw holding the optical bay in place, push it out with your finger (this will save you damaging it if you pull it out the other way

It should just slide easily out

Once you've put the drive into the caddy as per the instructions, flip it over and pop it in to the body of the laptop you took the optical drive out of. Note: the HDD caddy doesn't get screwed in as its missing the screwhole that you pushed the optical drive out with.

Sorry, this forum only allows 5 attachments per post so here's the last bit

Also worth mentioning there is a hidden compartment if you take the body apart where you can put a mSATA drive but that involves taking more screws out

Least I could do after you helped me out :)

The question you really need to ask yourself is how I managed to hold the phone to take the 3rd pic and also push the drive at the same time! (hint: a nose was involved)
