"I've noticed that my CPU heats up quite a lot when my laptop is idle, and I've browsed forums on PCSpecialist that state the main reason for this involves the CPU paste. Would it be possible to pay for my laptop to be serviced (i.e. cleaning the fans and re-applying thermal paste to the CPU)? If so, I'd be happy to pay for this as I'd like my laptop to be able to efficiently cool the machine." This was sent 6 months after my purchase in 09/2015 and the message was sent in 03/2016.
This isn't meant as a criticism of what you wrote, but when I first read this it looks as though you're asking for a 'laptop service' rather than reporting a fault that needs fixing. I don't know this for sure but I don't think PCS do provide a 'laptop service' which may be why you got the response you did.
I would contact them again, referring them to this thread, and ask them to replace the complete heatsink because the current one is broken and the laptop overheats and is not usable.
Sometimes you have to be very clear on what you want.
