GCC driver updates

Hello,

PC supplied by yourselves -
I am trying to install a driver update to my "AMD Chipset Driver" on my PC as per the supplied "Gigabyte Control Centre", but it returns the error that it cannot access: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\AMD\Chipset_Software\{3D81DAAB-BE67-48F9-8EAE-16847A9CD1F0}\
and then returns the attached error message.
I am not logged in as a user called "Administrator" on this Windows 11 PC, but the user I am logged in as was the one that I created during installation and has full administration rights to this PC. (there is no actual account named "Administrator" as far as I am aware and all installations/upgrades have been achieved through the username I setup during initial Windows 11 install)
The specified path does not exist on the HDD and I have run a full disk search for the directory "{3D81DAAB-BE67-48F9-8EAE-16847A9CD1F0}" to no avail on this PC.
Please can you let me know how I can update to the latest drivers on this new PC you have supplied me?

It's probably because the buggy driver update software built into the Gigabyte motherboard software (and most other manufacturers) does not have full access rights to install stuff.

I'd go to the AMD website and download the driver package directly. I can't point you to your driver package directly, as you've not provided your full config...but here's the main page where you can drill down to select your chipset and Windows version...

You shouldn't be using gigabytes software to update drivers, it will break your system.

You should use optional updates in windows update.

Thank you for the replies, but which road should I progress down? I either install Gigabyte motherboard AMD drivers through the AMD website (which looks like it wants to install quite a lot of software & updates) or I run Windows Update optional updates (which returns no drivers required)?
I am not sure what you're both saying is best

Drivers are served by windows update since windows 7

But you'd need to uninstall the gigabyte software as that will be blocking windows update.

I get everything other than AMD motherboard chipset drivers (and BIOS) via Windows Update (e.g. drivers for Alienware, Intel wifi/ethernet/bluetooth, realtek audio, AMD Display / System Software).

Currently the AMD Chipset version installed is v6.07.22.037 (from 26th July) and there's been nothing new showing in WU - but there's a v6.10.17.152 (from 21st October) showing on AMD website...which I didn't know about until I just checked (and there's nothing specifically mentioned that makes we want to install it - other than the usual nondescript 'bug fixes' :rolleyes:).

So I'm assuming they either don't go into WU at all, or there's a delay between AMD publishing them and them getting certified/accredited/signed for WU distribution...or that they only push out urgent changes and the rest can wait!

Hmm.. tried AMD Chipset version installation from downloading it from that link you supplied and still exactly the same error message on installation. It cannot locate an MSI on installation and cancels installs

Have you tried to uninstall completely the current driver using DDU before installing the new one ?

Tried to uninstall through Add/remove Programs and it states unable too as "files/folders" are missing. I think this MSI is still needed.
Does anyone have access to the MSI i need for the driver package i need here?

I found this solution on another forum :

  • Download the latest AMD Chipset Drivers installer.
  • Run the installer and wait for it to detect your devices.
  • Open Device Manager by pressing Win+X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Navigate to System Devices.
  • Right-click each AMD device in the list and choose Uninstall Device. For some devices, you may also need to select Attempt to remove the driver for this device. Do not restart your PC yet.
  • After uninstalling all AMD devices, return to the AMD Chipset Drivers installer and proceed with the installation.
  • You should see a confirmation message that the drivers were installed successfully.
  • Restart your PC to complete the process.

OK, there are LOADS of devices prefixed with "AMD" in device manager. Do I specifically remove the ones not stating "Ryzen" (ie. the System devices and Security Devices) and leave all the AMD "Processors" devices as they stipulate "Ryzen"? I have attached a screenshot of these devices so you can see what I am asking..
...and is there an order to remove them? The thing is, when you run the installer without doing any of this, it just fails to remove the old devices as it cannot access the correct MSI file on the PC. I am guessing that by doing it manually and individually like this, it does not need this MSI file, but is this going to have any knock on effects? I could also try to obtain the required MSI file directly from AMD as well.
What do you think?

I’m confused as you said the above which suggested it wasn’t the installer from AMD?

It's not very clear what's happening here, seems to be one post saying one thing and another contradicting it?

Let's take it back to square one, can you post a screenshot of your optional updates page?

And you still haven't posted specs as asked for in post 2

When I attempt to update the drivers, I receive ChipSet Drivers optional updates as per image 1.jpg

When I then attempt to install these selections, I receive the message 2.jpg

I then attempt to point it to the correct location, but on searching the HDD, it returns no valid instance of "AMD_Chipset_Drivers.msi" and I get the messages 3.jpg and 4.jpg on cancellation.

On attempting to update via this website, I also receive these error messages


As I say, sorry if I am missing something simple here.

You haven't given the screenshot of the optional updates page?

Which chipset did you download for from the AMD site? What is the specific file that it's downloaded?

That's entirely expected as the PCS downloads will be out of date, you'd never use them for anything on a desktop
