I don't think case fans are a concern, but what's the PC for and what's your max budget?

What monitor are you pairing it with, what resolution and refresh rate? Or make and model if you're unsure?

Thanks for the fast reply it will be used for primarily gaming. Monitor I have is a MSI optic mag241c, my brother gave it to me.

I ordered a week ago but can still make changes to the order, so you think I'm okay without the extra case fans, is there anything else you'd look out for. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Again thanks for the reply.

I would cancel that order to be honest. It's not well balanced with the monitor in mind, is hugely over-specced and the chipset is at a dead end. 450FPS isn't going to do you any good.

Something like this would be far more fitting, and a mile cheaper. If you really wanted to push the boat out the 2060 Super wouldn't be too crazy.

Agreed, the system is wasted on a 1080p monitor.

What price was the whole spec, and what was your budget?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. Budget was €1800 and it came to €1874.

If I had to purchase a new monitor for the system, what would you guys recommend?

Sorry for my lack of PC knowledge, it'll be my first PC.

The system is gonna be used for competitive gaming.

Thanks!

What level of competition?

You will want a 240hz 1080p TN gaming monitor for proper competitive gaming. The 9700K is probably a good shout but you'll want it overclocked. I still think the 2070 super is an overspend but it's your money :)

Beginners level haha! I just want to be able potentially use for games at a competitive level especially future games as I think mouse and keyboard is going to take me a long time to get used to, should be fun! I have read a bit about overclocking, is this something my complete lack of knowledge may struggle with?

Should I be concerned with the chipset, it's part of the motherboard or am I wrong. :(

Thanks so much again for the advice I will certainly look into the monitor! Build is at pre-production ATM so could make one or two last min changes.

+1 for cancelling.

It's a waste of money. You're buying hardware that you won't get any meaningful benefit from on a relatively budget-level monitor.

It's not really futureproof either, because by the time this kind of horsepower is needed for 1080p gaming, newer products will be out that would deliver increased performance for a lower cost anyhow.

You could instead go with @Scott 's build and save £500.

If you really, really want to splash out, go with his build but an RX 5700 graphics card. Still £400 better off. And it has a couple of free games bundled.

You could literally buy the 1440p 144hz version of that monitor your brother gave you as well as the pc, and still have a few quid left over I think :) If most of your competitive gaming is Fortnite, CS:GO, PUBG, BF:V, etc, you may prefer to stick to 1080p 144hz but my point is that this is how much money you're accidentally robbing yourself out of with the current spec.

Ouessebon is right - highly competitive gamers in first person shooters want the highest fps they can get, so go for 1080p resolution monitors with hundreds of fps. If you are not yet at or aiming to be at that level, then 144hz 1440p monitor is an awesome pick - still way, way more fps than people on a standard 60hz and the improved resolution makes games more beautiful and more fun! You'd still be able to get great at the games you want to compete in but when you were playing other stuff the screen would be a real treat.
