Gaming PC with approx. £2200 budget

Hi all

I'm looking to buy a new gaming PC, ideally to be able to player newer games on the top end of settings and would appreciate any advice as I'm afraid I'm a complete novice when it comes to builds!

My budget is £2200, but there is flex in that so if I could get significant gains by spending another couple of hundred, then that would be possible.

I have monitor, keyboard, mouse etc so the budget is entirely for the PC. Although one thing I was wondering was whether it is worth upgrading my monitors - I am currently using dual ASUS VS248.

Thanks very much for any advice!

I suggest you give this a read especially the section on AMD v intel, also at this type of budget we'd be looking at a 1440p system (which the 3060Ti is good for) so yes new monitor required, you could just get one and use one of your existing 1080p monitors as a secondary

Thanks for the helpful and fast reply, Martin. I've had a read of that as well as the Aug 2021 Desktop Building Guide and reconfigured my build based on that. Grateful for any further thoughts you may have.

Noted on the monitor. Will upgrade. :)

Hiya. You won’t need a 5950X for a gaming PC, it’s not the appropriate processor. If we tweak your build a little we can have a monster…

Very nice build here by @AgentCooper , but for another £18 I'd upgrade to the 1000W RMx PSU to give more overhead for future upgrades

Thanks very much, both. That looks amazing and really appreciate you taking the time! Noted on the PSU, Martin, that sounds like a good shout.

One final one, if you don't mind. Would you have any recommendations regarding a suitable monitor? Appreciate that if I'm going to get the most out of that build I'll need to invest in an appropriate monitor. I've been taking a look and the ASUS VG27AQ has caught my eye (looking around the £400 mark), but just want to make sure I'm making a good choice - reading the thread Martin linked earlier, the monitor can be a huge bottleneck...

You’d be making an excellent choice, it’s a great monitor 👍

Hi both, just wanted to say another thanks for your help - have ordered the above and really excited for it to arrive. It's clear that without you guys taking the time, I would have wasted money on a sub-par build, so much appreciated!

I just have one quick Q - I've noticed that most builds on the forums recommend the Firecuda 530 rather than the Samsung 980 Pro for the 1st SSD. I think the Firecuda was out of stock when this build was put together - it's now back in stock. Is there any value in switching for the extra £5 or so?

Honestly up to yourself there really isn't much different between them. The Firecuda is ever ever so slightly faster but it does have better write endurance I believe.

It's like choosing between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. Both are at the top end of the scale and neither are a bad choice

For 500gb, the Samsung 980 Pro is a bit faster on the sequential and random write speeds, about the same on sequential and randoms reads and a touch cheaper. The endurance is worse but realistically you will never hit that limit. For 1gb+ drives, the Firecuda 530 is faster.

Thanks, all. That's really helpful. Sounds like there's not a significant difference between the two, so will stick with the 980 and spend the fiver on a pint instead. :)

Back to counting down the days until it arrives....

this is going to be a great gaming pc !

Thanks! I can't wait. AgentCooper and MartinR have put together an amazing build. In fact, my brother took a look at it, and ordered one for himself..... !
