Gaming PC build

Hi,

I am very new to PC designing so would greatly appreciate any advice. I am looking for a decent gaming PC which won't struggle with new titles and won't need upgrading for a little while. I am currently a student so any way I can chip off a few pounds would be great but I can justify spending a little more than the quote if there is a decent benefit in doing so. This quote is mostly based off of the 'Fusion Ultimate' build as I thought it would be a good place to start and I have previously picked out the same CPU and GPU in previous build ideas I have made myself.
I would also use this PC for listening to high quality music but have an external DAC so I dont think I need to upgrade my sound card? I am also unsure whether I need any type of special cooling as I'm not planning on overclocking my PC so if I can save money there that would be great. Also for the case; I dont need anything bright or fancy (plain black is fine for me!) but if anyone has suggestions for a case which has a good amount of ports (mainly usb) that isnt too expensive that would be really useful!

That is a good point about the monitor. I currently have a crappy/old Samsung T22B300 screen. I am hesitant to want to downgrade the GPU as I fear I would have to upgrade it again sooner than I would like (such as if I pick up a better monitor) and to my mind its more cost effective to pay more now to have that security? I have had this GPU recommended to me by a friend, I also play quite high level battlefield (to this point stuck playing on xbox) and knowing this GPU has ray tracing capability I would feel as if I would be missing out once my set up is complete (whenever that may be!!).

I'm used to playing on laptops with integrated graphics and am currently on an 8 year old PC that has served me well so being able to have chrome open and game is mind blowing. But yes it would actually be quite nice to be able to stream or record gameplay comfortably !

Paying a premium for a GPU you aren't going to get use out of is a huge waste of cash. You are actually WAY past what you would need to power that monitor.

Without knowing exactly when you were going to purchase a monitor and what model you are going to purchase, there's no point in opting for a higher end GPU. It's highly likely that you would under-shoot the requirement if buying something more modern (1440p 144hz). With all that in mind, if you set yourself a target and budget around £600, you will be able to upgrade the GPU and the Monitor at the same time. The good thing is, that after September, 2060 Super money (never mind 2070) will buy you the 3060.... which is going to be the 2070 Super equivalent (1440p 144hz). Wayyyy more performance per £££.

The RTX aspect of it won't make much odds. I have the 2080 with RTX capability, but to actually get decent FPS is a nightmare. It's not there yet.... it will be in September.

This is what I would go with right now. Like I say, set yourself a date and save up £600/£700 to drop on a GPU and Monitor after September and get ready to strap yourself in

Get a lesser GPU now and get yourself something from the 3000 series, save a bit more cash and get an Odyssey G7 monitor. You could(will) end up with something near the top of the line for that budget I believe? If you save £400 on the PC now, the monitor is £450 for the 27". And the (edit)3060 might be around £300-350? I need someone to give an estimate, they might be much more.

If that budget is possible you will definitely be glad you waited.

3060 will be around the £300-£350 mark I imagine

Thank you so much for your responses! You have convinced me to wait for the release of the 3060 before shelling out on a pricey GPU and also getting a much needed upgrade for my monitor nearer Christmas time. In the build you have suggested Scott, will it just be as simple as swapping the graphics card out or would it need more upgrades to work well?

The last one I suggested will take anything up to around the power of a current 2080 GPU. This would suggest that it will take the next 3080. If you wanted to be extra safe you could up the PSU to the 750w TXM or RM. That would cover any GPU I can think of.

Ok awesome, I'm getting super excited already! I just have a few more quick questions:

For the case I was thinking of changing to the 'COOLERMASTER MASTERCASE H500 ARGB GAMING CASE' as it seems to have a better build quality from what I've seen in videos. Would this be better than the 'COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX TD500 MESH RGB GAMING CASE' or would someone be able to recommend a better case in that price range (for quality and a decent amount of top/front ports)?

I probably will have need for a disk drive at some point just for uploading CDs so I am assuming I will need an external USB drive? (I think this is a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway )

and a delivery question:

I'm currently stuck at home with no date for when I will get back in the lab. Would it be possible to change the delivery address mid-way through the build in case I have to head back sooner than expected?

The TD500 is an excellent case for the money. It's in a very similar ball park to the H500 and there's nothing that would put me off either case. If you preferred the H500 and weren't going to sacrifice anything to choose it, then feel free to go for either as you will be more than happy.

You can add a USB DVD drive to the build if you wish. Most people use the same method nowadays. But yes, this can be added any time you like.

Regarding delivery, I believe it would depend on how you paid for the item. Finance would be a fixed address I imagine. If it's all paid for up front though you may be able to change to a work address. You would need to call PCS themselves to be sure.
