Gaming/Music Production Build

Evening all,

Hope you're all doing well. Just wanted to get an educated opinion on this build and an opinion on what monitor I should get with a budget of £400. The following would be used for gaming, music production and any word processing and statistical analysis for my medical science degree. Thank you all for your opinions in advance.

Actually, now thinking, for music production you may benefit from having an Asus Rog Strix X570-F motherboard. I don't recommend B550 pairing with 5800X.

5800X is an excellent CPU for your uses, but it runs hot. While H110i is a good cooler, it's an absolute minimum for this CPU. I'd recommend H115i for confidence. However, it has a slightly bigger radiator which lead me in to changing a PC case to the one it could accommodate this AIO, comparing to your original specs.

There’s actually a case for going with the Strix 550 with a music production build. No internal chipset fan so is quieter and it also has the Thunderbolt header. We’d also suggest going for the fastest RAM available, probably 32GB of 3600MHz depending on how much audio editing OP is planning on.

EDIT - @Citrus_9 has made solid builds there, would only potentially require tweaks depending on feedback from OP. What kind of music work? Is a silent system required if recording ambient sounds with a mic in the same space? The more info the better 🙂👍

Thanks for your suggestions. Am I really that far off in terms of wattage for the power supply (550 to 850)? I'm not that technically minded so excuse me for being a bit dim. Also, I really had my heart set on the H500 case. Is there no chance of the H1150i being compatible?

The reason that we spec the 850W power supply is it gives plenty of headroom for upgrades down the line

Also, the fans don’t come on until about 40% usage, so it is likely to be a quieter PC. PSUs are also more eficient on moderate loads and will be less stressed and likely to last longer.
