Hi ! A friend of mine wanted to buy a new PC since his is getting quite old. I would like your opinion on the first config I made, if something is wrong, or if something could be better etc..

The maximum budget is 2500€

So if you have any alternatives without significant loss of performance that would reduce the price of the PC, please let me know.

The aim is to be able to play all games comfortably, without having to compromise between quality and performance..
We're not aiming for full 4K HDR RTX gaming.

I only chose a single SSD since it's already covered.

As of now he don't have a monitor, but the one we're looking for is ;

iiyama 27" LED - G-Master G2770QSU-B1 Red Eagle

Bonjour !

We will try to keep within 2500€ then. 🤣

You can spare on the SSD: P44 is basically equivalent if you need close to the best. Corsair MP600 would be ok also without a major difference in real-life performance. And if you have another (large ?) SSD if I understand correctly, I would downsize the OS drive to 1TB or even 500GB.

You can downgrade the RAM to 5200 MHz if really necessary (not the most impact vs choice of CPU and GPU for games and general PC usage).

You can certainly save money on the cooler. Firstly, I do not understand why you select a cooler with an LCD for a non-transparent case. Secondly, this CPU's PPT is 162W, so any cooler able to evacuate 180 or better 200W will be sufficient.

This case is great quality especially in terms of construction and options/modularity. However, it is far from the best in terms of airflow (although quite good for a closed version). If you choose it for the quietness, then it's a bit a contradiction to select a liquid cooler which will open the top. And let escape the noise of the GPU which will struggle a bit. You may be able to a get lower or equivalent level of noise with a case providing great airflow such as Corsair 4000D or 5000D for instance. The quality of construction is not as impressive as on the Fractal but should be more than sufficient.

Last but not least: if you plan for 1440p 165Hz, then you can spare the most on the GPU. AMD can also help reduce cost if you do not care much about ray tracing and such. I will leave others suggest a good CPU for this need.
Edit: I meant GPU! Sorry

Oh, and you can spare also on the PSU, although it's not the best place to spare, especially if your friend already plans to sell your wife for a future, higher-power, upgrade. 😋

Bonjour !
Hey !
Thanks for you answer.

We already have a SSD dedicated to the OS, so that's not something we have to worry about.

I took note of you remark regarding the cooling and the case, and we will go for the Corsair 4000D.

And for the cooling, would a CORSAIR ICUE LINK H100i RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER be good here ?

I would also very much like to hear any recommendations on the GPU. I don't really care if it's AMD or Nvidia, so both are fine.

There will be no compromise on the CPU though, the 7800X3D will remain.

For the PSU it was either the CORSAIR 1000W or 850W, but I opted for 1000W first planning for the future. But it's not set in stone.
Especially if I can keep my wife this way.

That's wise! Sorry I meant GPU above...

If the drive is not for the OS then you could also choose P41+ to save even more.

To cool the 4000D: I would use 3 front fans + 1 rear fan and the rest depends if you use an air-cooler or liquid cooler. You may prefer to buy the RGB version of the 4000D which aleady includes 3 RGB fans in the front if I remember well. Look at the most economical solution depending on the extra fans you prefer.

Noted.

I edited my original post with the updated configuration, the only thing I'm really waiting for now is some insight on the GPU, and I think that will be all !

Update :

Graphics Card
20GB AMD RADEON™ RX 7900 XT - HDMI, DP - DX® 12

Previously had 16GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4070 Ti SUPER - HDMI, DP, LHR

I'm still taking any insight anyone can provide !

It should be more than sufficient for that CPU.
However, do you really need/want the iCUE LINK version?
The H100X or the H115i iCUE Capellix may be better value in my opinion. The H115i will be quieter while having more cooling potential (almost same surface than 3x120mm but with a shorter path for the liquid, so less pressure drop that the pump needs to compensate).

I do not like the results I see here about the iCUE LINK H100i:
The fans have less surface area than typical 120 mm due to the LED ring (+ maybe larger central hub, hard to tell).

I decided to follow your recommandation and went for the H115i iCUE Capellix, I also increased the PSU from 850W to 1000W due to the increase in power needed, and to have room for future upgrades.

What created an increase in power needed?

I'll be honest I didn't really check, I just had the pop-up recommendation for the PSU. Surely the config is nowhere near this amount yet but the price increase is reasonable and again we're also planning for future upgrades so it's fine either way, 1000W was the first choice.

We will probably wait for the black friday and try to fit in 6000 MHz ram instead of the current 5200 and add a 2To Corsair MP600 5000 Mo/R while we're at it for more storage, he has a fair amount of storage already with other SSD but wanted this one in if possible.

Given the healthy budget, I would invest slightly more in the platform (Case, MB and PSU) to prevent being hampered by future upgrades.

I'd go with the TUF X670E, which is PCIe 5.0 ready (M.2 Gen 5) and I would definitely choose an ATX 3.1 PSU (1200W RMx Shift) rather than the old ATX 2.4 models (850/1000W) for such level of build (which can be certainly enough NOW but are less efficient at low loads, have no spikes protection and will limit the future GPUs). I would choose the LINK version because you would benefit from having less cables around and has better fans/pump than the older models. I would not go below 6000MHz with the RAM (AM5 frequency sweetspot).

Here is an more balanced alternative, in my opinion (from the .fr website) :)

Both TUF models have a single M.2 slot in PCIe 5.0 x4, which is a bit of a pity for the X670E given its price. It supports x16 PCIe 5.0, though.
The X670E chipset features enhanced VRM, capacitors, and built-in WiFi.
Given the little price difference (about 90€), I prefer that choice. :)
