Game crashing my PC. Overheating? Powerspike?

Hi all.

I recently got an invite for a new game called Deadlock. The problem is it will crash my PC without warning, leading me to force shut down to restart the PC. No crash report, unless I have to generate one. Reading on the Reddit i'm wondering if my system is overheating or powerspiking at some point, since people have encountered something similar but no one has posted a fix for an AMD processor & GPU. I play another Game, No Man's Sky without a crash.

No Mans Sky Temp During the game AMD Radeon 7600 XT does spike to 80 C, is this normal/tolerable?

If it helps, the reddit post I read is this Reddit

Any help or guidance any one can give would be greatley appreciated. Thank you in advance.

13/14th gen Intel i7/i9 crashes are common nowadays due to overheating, high voltages, power spikes and poor QC at the fab, so they're to be expected.

However, that doesn't affect the 7800X3D, so it's something else.

If it's fine in every other game, then it suggests there's something unique to this new game that's causing it.

First thing I would do is completely uninstall Norton (if it's still installed) using the official uninstaller - if you use Windows uninstaller it won't fully uninstall it and you might end up with connectivity issues..

There may also be something recorded in the Event Viewer, so this thread might be of use...

Thank you for the reply. Tried to get the information requested, hope this is the right stuff. If not, let me know.

Also I have been running Bitdefender AV. Is it better just using Windows Defender?

Thank you to the person who suggested the deadlock forum and looking AMD Adrenaline. May possibly have found the problem. I think the game was not capping fps properly and was trying to render some crazy frames Frames It Appears the in game frame limiter is not working correctly.

Went into AMD Adrenaline to limit the frames through there which has brought that figure way down.

Wasn't sure if it was the new rig or not since i'm not familar with it yet plus been using Intel/Nvidia for the longest time now. I'll keep an eye on it but thank you for all who replied.

May have spoken to soon on this. Still not sure if its just the game or a wider issue but something feels off. Even rebooting this time was an effort, the PC just seemed "Dead" wouldn't turn on. The PC did flicker a couple of times before turning off. Had to unplug from mains, wait a while and tried again.

Have uploaded the reports again, if some one more Tech savy could have a look a what the potential problem could be.

Again, thank you in advance for any help. Any other information needed just ask.

The BSOD Doctor
In your System log I can see several Critical Error 41 messages, these indicate that Windows wasn't shut down properly. None of them are accompanied by BUGCHECK messages, which would indicate a BSOD, and that indicates that WIndows crashed uncontrollably - which is what you're reporting.

I looked more closely at the System log to locate the messages just before it crashed (ie. just before the reboot message), and some patterns have emerged.

Of the five crashes on 14th Sept in three of them we see an Asus driver (IOMap64.sys) loaded immediately before the restart....
Code:
Log Name: System

Service Name: IOMap
Service File Name: C:\windows\system32\drivers\IOMap64.sys
Service Type: kernel mode driver
Service Start Type: demand start

This driver is used in several Asus products. What concerns me further about this is that in once crash on 14th Sept we see a Corsair driver (CorsairLLAccess64.sys) loaded immediately before the crash...
Code:
Log Name: System

Service Type: kernel mode driver

Perhaps there is a conflict between the IOMap64.sys driver and the CorsairLLAccess64.sys driver? Are they perhaps trying to control the same device (lighting, fans, etc,)? I would uninstall ALL Asus products that you don't absolutely need. I'd also uninstall all Corsair products that you can temporarily do without and see whether the crashes stop. If they don;t then you'll know that these driver loads are not the likely cause.

In two crashes we also see this warning message just before the restart...
Code:
Log Name: System
Source: Display
Date: 14/09/2024 18:20:35

I don't know the significance of this, do you have HDR enabled? It may perhaps be related to these crashes appearing in one game? I'm at a loss to explain this one but it may be significant.

In one crash we also see a BitDefender driver (vlflt.sys) loaded immediately before the crash....
Code:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-FilterManager
Date: 14/09/2024 18:03:20

Someone has already suggested uninstalling BitDefender and I would definitely agree.

Can you check that your system is correctly configured to generate dumps if you get a BSOD please. ALL of the following must be true...
  • The page file must be on the same drive as your operating system
  • Set page file to "system managed"
  • Set system crash/recovery options to "Automatic memory dump"
  • "Write and event to the system log" box must be checked
  • "Overwrite any existing file" box must be checked
  • The dump file location must be %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP
  • Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
  • User account control must be running

Thank you for the reply ubuysa.

I've gone through all the steps on your "seeking help with BSOD page"

Do i need to create the folder for C:\Windows\Memory.dmp i tried finding it on my system but got this memory.dmp

The start up and recovery settings are as you requested I think start up & recovery

Windows error reporting service is set to manual. Is there anything else on this page I need to enable? WER

Bitdefender is now removed.

I noticed after the crash that corsair icue wasnt running normally till after a few restarts. Not sure if this is indicitive of anything.

Let me know if you need anything else and thank you once again to all contributors.

*Edit* When you talked about having HDR enabled, I do have a 1440p monitor. I remember ingame it was set to play at 1440p by default. I've since set it to 1080P. Could this be a possible cause of a crash having it set to 1440p?

SysnativeFileCollectionApp
Hey all.

I'm at a loss. Still having issues and now a new problem of web browsers Firefox & chrome crashing. I installed the SysnativeFileCollectionApp and have posted it a the start of the post. Will this collect information on those crashes to? If that is not usefull just let me know what else is needed.

Would really love to get to the bottom of this but haven't the foggiest what's going on or where to start. Thank you in advance, any help would be much appreciated.

The BSOD Doctor
That's starting to sound much more like a hardware issue now. The first thing I'd suggest is that you remove one of the RAM sticks - be sure to leave the single stick in the correct slot according to the motherboard manual, usually it's A2 - and run on one stick for a few days.

If the system is still unstable then swap the RAM sticks over and run on just the other one for a few days.

If it's unstable on each RAM stick on its own then your RAM is almost certainly good.

Hold off on the Sysnative file collection app for now, your system sounds too unstable.
