Future Proof Gaming PC?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a gaming PC that will last a decent amount of time and not struggle with future releases. I dont need to play everything on max settings but I'd like to be able to run most games without dropping frames on my 144hz 1080p monitor. I'd say I'm pretty much at my budget limit with this build so any refinements and ways to save without dropping performance would be much appreciated. The main things I'd be looking to run are Rocket League, the new COD when it comes out, and other games of similar graphical intensity. I wont be doing any video editing or streaming. My main concerns with this build that I'm unsure about are the primary SSD which seems to have fairly low read/write speeds compared to the M.2 (although I don't actually know what M.2 is lol) and if the cooling and RAM ive picked are necessary or if i could drop them down a bit without running into any problems.

Hi there,

So firstly, M.2 drives are a different form factor to older SATA SSDs, they attach directly to the motherboard and have faster speeds as a result (very dumbed down version, there are much smarter people on here who can explain in more detail if you ask 😂)

And just to confirm, we’re looking at optimising this build towards a £1600 budget for a 1080p gaming PC? 🙂

Yeah 1080 144fps and £1600 is my limit, I'd preferably like it to be a bit cheaper if possible and yes just for gaming, anything else I do will just be web based like watching youtube etc so nothing to worry about there. Thanks for the quick reply!

Biggest change here is switching to the 12400 CPU. For purely gaming this will give you all the power you need, and it means that you can save a good chunk on cooling as it’s thermal output is much lower than some of the higher end variants.
Moved you over to a 2 m.2 setup. You’re under budget here so you could potentially opt for some faster drives, but you won’t get a huge boost in boot or load times for a couple of years.
A larger PSU is to cover you for the future, with how power hungry next gen GPUs are going to be 850W really is the standard these days. This should let you slot in a 5060 or similar a few years down the line to keep playing the latest titles.

Thanks a lot this looks great, I've always assumed I'd need the highest end of processors so thats great also the storage looks really good lots of SSD storage is fantastic. Upgrading the storage and GPU and making the whole thing cheaper is much better than I was hoping for lol. Gonna order this tonight!
