Fusion IV volume control buttons not repeating fast enough when holding buttons down

Hi there! I just bought my first PC Specialist laptop earlier this month and I love it! I've got a few things I'd like to get resolved, though, if possible, and hopefully they're just software bugs. On my desktop when I hold down the volume up or down keys, it repeats the key as quickly as if I were to hold down any letter or number in a text editor. On my new laptop, this doesn't seem to be happening, and something seems to be interrupting this and it's not going up or down as quickly as I'd expect it to. This results in me getting frustrated at the volume not reaching my desired level quickly enough and I try tap it quickly instead but that doesn't make a difference.

I've made some gif images of my laptop's volume going up vs my desktop's. They also show that the keyboard settings are similar on both laptop and desktop.

Any help with getting this resolved would be appreciated!! Let me know if there's any settings you'd like me to check and I'd be happy to provide more info.

Does this occur with other keys or specifically just the volume key? Like when you hold the "F" key or any other key is it slow to repeat?

Just wondering if its something specific to changing the volume or whether its related to the keyboard repeat rate/delay settings.

Assuming it's not just the repeat rate settings as suggested, I rather suspect that this is just down to different drivers on different platforms. It would seem that the laptop driver is either not able to respond as quickly or the driver loses control more often on the laptop and so can't respond as quickly?

When you hold down any alphanumeric key, it repeats like it should, so those keys at least aren't being blocked by whatever is causing this. Is there any way I can test how quickly the function keys repeat? Maybe I can test the function key that the volume button is on and see if that tells us anything? :p

Do you suggest I uninstall the control panel software or something and see if that helps? I'm wondering if I'd be able to run a live version of Linux and see how the volume keys respond... Does Linux have anything to show you a change in volume like Windows 10 does? :p

I'm not that familiar with Linux, but running a live version to see is a very good idea. :)

Cool, I'll try that then! :) I'm curious though, am I the only one experiencing this issue? I'm not seeing anyone else report anything similar or say that they've tried it on theirs and theirs is fine or doing the same thing? :p anyone able to try it on their Fusion IV or, if unavailable, any other PCS laptop?

So... Bad news :( I tried a live distro of Linux (Linux Mint 19.3 "Tricia" MATE) and the volume change repeat rate is still slow. As on Windows, even if I tap volume up/down like mad, it still only responds when it can, as if it blocks any more volume change input for a few ms when one is received. Again, tried it on my desktop too and all is well there; the volume up/down keys respond perfectly fine when held and also when tapped quickly.

Anyone from PCS able to give any more feedback on this issue? Seems like it may be a firmware issue then? Unless it's just isolated to my laptop... Can anyone try this on theirs?

Thanks for the feedback WE_RE - I've highlighted that you're also experiencing this issue on your new Vyper laptop. They seem hesitant to attempt to replicate this on one of the laptops in their warehouse. I told them I'm comfortable and willing to do any required system/firmware/BIOS updates if they are able to supply one after finding and fixing the issue - if it is a software/firmware issue.

They mentioned that my laptop may need to be returned for inspection and repaired if required. I told them that I've unfortunately thrown away most of the packaging that the laptop came in in order to tidy the place up, as the box it came in was quite large, so it would be a bit of a hassle to try and find some materials to keep the laptop safe should I need to send it back.

I'll let you know if I'm any closer to finding out what the cause and fix is.

Just to note - other key combinations also display this same slowness issue, e.g. screen brightness down/up. Is yours the same WE_RE?
