I've been a huge fan of the series from its original release in 1992 as Championsip Manager. Is this the end of FM? 😢

I played FM almost obsessively from CM97/98 until FM22 and haven't picked it up since. It just went a little too detailed for me and to get any sort of longevity in a save required far too much time. It's a shame they've cancelled this version, but not completely unsurprising given the delays.

Just refresh the names/teams in FM24 and release it as FM26 - cheaper and quicker surely?
That's been Sports Interactive's approach for years, but for FM25, they tried to change/update too much at once and the sky has fallen in.

- With a total database in the region of 500,000 players & staff for the truly obsessed, the game would slow to a crawl if your database got to around 100,000 players due to single core performance while progressing the game, and using hyperthreading only during matches. FM25 was apparently going to have hyperthreading more widely used to increase game speeds, so more leagues and players could be active at once.

- FM25 was also going to have an updated graphics engine for the matches as they'd not touched that in a few years.

- There was also a plan to introduce women's football leagues into the game which makes sense as female staff are already in the database and have been for a few years (I've hired Emma Hayes as a coach a few times for Premier League clubs)

Any one of these three things would have been a big undertaking in an annual game, but I really do think Sports Interactive bit off more than they could chew and haven't been able to deliver.
