Hi there. Can I ask a couple of questions to get a handle on things?

What's your budget?

Uses for the system, gaming, streaming, editing, design etc?

What monitor will you be using with the build? Make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be handy to know 👍

Okay, thanks. First things first... go for an AMD system. They’re the market leaders these days and Intel have got a lot of catching up to do. Have a look at the thread below for more info.

With that budget we can get you a great system and a monitor to go with it. Give me five minutes, I’ll spec something up for you 👍

3k is just for the computer system itself, everything else can be on top of it, I don't mind

Excellent... how much are you willing to spend on the monitor?
i don't really know, as long as its not crazy expensive so maybe £500 if that'll manage to get me a good one. I'm just hoping for a 144hz and maybe higher resolution than 1920x1080 if that's possible so the budget for that isn't as strict

This combo of system and monitor would be a peach. The 3070 would have you nicely covered, you don’t actually need a 3080 as it’s a 4K 144Hz GPU and those monitors are the best part of a grand. For me 1440p ultrawide is much more immersive.

Note - I don’t actually like this case all that much, I’d be looking to swap in a Corsair 500D SE or 680X when they come back into stock 👍

this looks good, the case I chose on the original was just a filler for the time being, because the case I was planning on getting went a couple of days ago, I've still got a while until I buy it so I'll have a look over all the cases before I get it.

that monitor looks good although I'm not sure how well I would manage to fit it into my setup I'll do some checking with that one

is there any reason you made the HDD lower storage but added SSD Drives? I'm just curious because I have no idea about storage solutions and this looks odd to me

also, I assume it will do but you halved the amount of RAM, will this be enough, I assume so just wanted to make sure

Thanks a lot for your help btw, I'm clueless

No worries, that’s what the forum is for 😀

Frankly, 32GB of RAM is a little bit overkill for a gaming system, it’s usually only flight simulators that get any use of anything over 16GB. So you’ll definitely be covered for any game you’d ever want to play.

The M.2 drives I put in are the next generation of SSD. Amazingly quick and you definitely want a couple of these in there. The logic of having two is to have the smaller one just for your OS and programs, so when you turn on the PC you’ll be at your home screen within seconds. The second one will be your main storage drive and it will load up your games FAST. The icing on the cake with this setup is that if your computer fails or gets a virus and needs a complete reinstall, it’s only the small drive that gets wiped. All your games and saves are safely housed and you don’t have to go through the giant hassle of downloading them all over again. The standard HDD is just for things like music and videos, they don’t get any benefit of being on a fast drive.

oh wow, that's amazing, thank you very much, when I get it will I have to do anything to set my system files to be in the smaller SSD or will that be done on its own?
the last question I have, I noticed you didn't use the 16 core AMD processor, is this because it's unnecessary or is the smaller core processor the faster option for gaming?

They’ll install Windows on the fastest drive as standard, which in this case is the smaller drive. So no issues there 👍

Similarly to the RAM situation, going for the sixteen core processor isn’t necessary for a gaming system. With the 5900X you’ll be able to play whatever game you want... with cores to spare if you also want to stream it 😀
