First Time PC Buyer

Hi. First time PC buyer here. Does the PC below seem good value for money. I'm looking to use it for SolidWorks and other CAD software (including renderings and animations) and Fortnite. Would also like to ensure longevity for the PC. I had a budget of £1000 but am able to go a bit above (the PC below is currently £1088) so please let me know if you have any suggestions. Also, I was considering buying a laptop instead so if you think that may be a better option, please let me know (I'm not too fused about portability). Thanks.

It really depends on what your use case is. What will you be using it for? Knowing how you intend to use it the friendly chaps on here will be able to make a better assessment if it's suitable for your needs.

Once you've answered the questions raised we can offer some advice.

But what you’re expecting won’t be possible at that budget, you’d need closer to £1500 for something remotely worthwhile

Mcad software is in the main single threaded, Rendering on the other hand likes as many cores as you can give it, also needs plenty of Vram. of course it all depends on how large your data sets are especially for rendering and animations. The larger the data sets [ scene ] and hi res textures the more Vram needed. As spider Tracks said your original budget would not come close. What size of data sets are you planning on rendering? If you are into millions of polygons then £1500 will not even come close.

Does vRAM not become moot if rendering via the CPU anyway? I was under the impression that vRAM was only a deal breaker when the GPU was being utilised in the grunt processing.

Regardless, I don't think £1500 is going to hit the aspirations. You can get a card with generous vRAM but it won't be a challenger for rendering at this budget. Better to focus on the CPU and try to get the most raw performance you can from the system.
