Hello, finally in a position to build a dream PC. Can anyone offer some advice? Taken hints from similar threads / budgets. Max budget is £3400, keen to have the warranty (as a just in case, when spending so much).

Main use will be gaming, pc gaming at 3440x1440 up to 144hz, or also sometimes at 4k on a TV. Keen to have the 250gb ssd for a separate linux drive and 4TB of SSDs for my Windows (either M2/SSD or 2 M2s).

Really like the RGB stuff, and want it to run cool (hence fans).

Please any suggestions let me know.

Hi mate, I've just optimized it a little for you.

Changed the motherboard to better suit the CPU. The CROSSHAIR is superb but not required for the 5900x

RAM on a gaming build generally 16GB is more than enough. There are certain games where 32GB is required though like flight simulators or heavily modded titles. I'll leave that up to your discretion

I've also rejigged the storage to give you 2No. M.2 SSD's. One 500GB for your OS and keyprgrams and one 2TB drive Gen4 to make use of Smart Access Memory when that becomes a thing. Should see super fast load times in everything. Also kept the 256GB SSD for your Linux drive

Dropped the thermal paste on the CPU cooler, the Corsair coolers come with really high quality pre applied paste so you don't need that and also kept your warranty while saving you a few £

Cheers thanks a lot for your help! :)

Couple questions just to get it right in my head, would there be any issue or problems with performance with the Crosshair vs X570 for the 5900x, or is it just a case of it's overkill? I know the Crosshair has extra usb ports etc and built in WIFI to the point where the difference is about 65£ on this.

Also is there any reason to go for a Seagate as opposed to other brand for the smaller M2 boot drive? The 500gb Samsung 980 comes in a few £ less than the Seagate for example.

Thank you for your help. :)

The Firecuda 930 has much better write endurance than the Samsung 980 Pro (and became available soon after I received my new PC 😡)

The CROSSHAIR is definitely overkill and no required for the 5900x. The X570 is a brilliant board too mate but it's up to yourself

@Bigfoot has the drive question answered. The Firecuda is also just ever so slightly faster
