Well read the advice and watched the video, found more Gamer nexus stuff and now know more about power supplies and transient spikes than I would ever willing want to know about. So I did upgrade the power supply, not just to increase the wattage, but to one with a better build. Thank you everyone for the advice.

Very wise. PSU is often overlooked, and it’s one of the most important components as it dictates the quality and amount of power distributed to the whole system.

Everyone who answered my questions have already helped me put my order. also some people do look at other peoples posts to help make up their minds re their own specs, with that in mind I've added this video which really is an idiots guide to power supply. Every question I asked and many I didn't think of is covered.
