First Gaming PC advice

Hi all,

I’m looking for a PC to play a few games, most demanding would be Forza Horizon 5 and Warzone on mid to high settings at around 60 fps and I have a 1440p monitor. I also play SWTOR so single core performance is a bonus. I'll use the PC for dev work on the side as well.

I don’t plan on playing any other recent games on PC in the near future. Budget wise I’d rather stay at this price point (£1,364), only going slightly higher if it’s a significant improvement. I've chosen the "AMD SMALL FORM FACTOR GAMING PCS" selection because I don't have much height space available for larger cases and I've heard Ryzen CPUs are better.

I would appreciate any advice on my planned spec.

Also I’m not sure if it's worth buying an extra case fan? I’d like it to stay quiet but obviously not overheat anything.

I wouldn't recommend any of the small form factors for gaming. They will physically take the components but to be putting so much wattage through such a small confined space is just asking for trouble. I would always aim for one of the smaller mid-size towers, specifically made for good airflow and gaming hardware.

Regarding the build, it's not very well configured at all unfortunately. You have chosen a very outdated CPU &various other lower end components. The GPU isn't going to be powerful enough to eek out the performance that you are looking for, IMO, and you would be looking at around £100 to get something suitable.

Thank you for the advice! I've tried to work on it.

Clearly my budget is restrictive so I'm willing to move my performance needs to just running SWTOR at max and Forza Horizon 5 at a playable state in good graphics at 1440p. Warzone I can do without. I've gone for the Ryzen extreme selection this time with a case that should just fit right.

This comes in a bit cheaper than your spec.
Better airflow case while still being relatively small, switched over to 12th gen Intel for better bang for buck performance. 16GB of fast RAM.
An 850W PSU is the minimum I would spec nowadays. Future gen GPUs look to be massively power hungry, and this saves you requiring a new PSU when you might upgrade a few years down the line.
Ditched Bullguard and added Silver Warranty for a fiver.

FYI I don't think the 3060 is going to cut the mustard for 1440p at a decent framerate. If you're happy with 60-100fps though it should do fine but it's not a well placed product as it's more intended for professional workloads (hence the vRAM).

The 3060Ti would be a better suited GPU, but again the budget is the limitation. It may be worthwhile going with the 12 series system suggested by @MrWilson, only without the GPU in place. You would be able to get a better deal externally, ordering it yourself and fitting it.

Thanks both, I'll need to ponder about my budget restriction for a while.

Looks like getting an eight core processor isn't worth the price? Even for non-gaming multi-tasking in general?

Being worth it doesn't really come into it, the budget isn't there to support it unfortunately.
