Fan noise

Hi, could anyone please point me in the right direction to a good video tutorial or documentation explaining how I reduce the fan noise for the desktop PC below? I can't believe how loud it is while idle. It's like I'm sitting next to a hoover. Even the dog is scared. Thanks!

I'm not certain whether there are any videos showing you how to reduce fan noise on that specific PC - it depends no where the fans are plugged in. You could do a search for 'adjust fan curves b650-plus motherboard' which gleans some videos demonstrating how to do it.

Few thoughts though before going ahead and making changes if you're not sure what you're doing;
  • Did this happen when the PC was brand new out of the box or is it a recent change?
  • Have you checked thermal performance to see if things are overheating (can you tell whether the PC is running 'warm' for example)?
  • Do you know (or can you determine) which fan(s) is/are making the noise?
  • Do you know whether the PC has iCUE and if the fans are (largely) controlled by that?
Could be a case of tracing the fan cables to see where they're plugged in. If they're plugged into the motherboard you should be able to tweak the fan curves via settings in your motherboard bios else if its iCUE or similar you'd use that particular program.

Thank you, steaky360.

Yes, the noise was there out of the box. I've accessed and updated iCUE and changed the fans from balanced to quiet and the pump from quiet to variable which has made a big reduction in noise. There's still a low irritating whine which comes and goes from the pump but my ears will survive for now (insanity comes later). I've attached the balanced and quiet/variable stats.

Just to add, I've noticed there are a lot of complaints about this particular pump on other forums, with many for the last couple of years resorting to a hack in which they change the configuration of the balanced profile to 50%. This results in 1960~1990RPM and zero irritating noise apparently.

Is it the cooper fans your referencing then or the case fans?
