Failing AIO, recommendations for new cooler?

They're not too hard, just been through the process of changing one 360 AIO for another myself. And if a failing pump has put you off AIOs, a good air cooler would be perfect for that CPU. Noctua, BEQuiet would be good examples, although I'm reading lots of good things about DeepCool's offerings, such as the AK620.

In all fairness it has to be honest, I'll definitely take a look into the AK620 then. Do you know any channels on YouTube that educates people on how to remove AIOs to Air Coolers?

Unfortunately my AIO Pump has gone bang so I'm In need of a new one. I'm not limited to just AIOs, a standard Air Cooler is also an option 😁

For the 5600X a decent air cooler is certainly an option; it is not a very hot chip. The Hyper 212 is probably a safe bet, but can be a bit of a nightmare to install. The Noctua NH-U12S would be my personal recommendation.

My only concern would be if the cooler came with a custom backplate rather than the standard one; that may make mounting harder than it would normally be. But I honestly don't have much idea...

Air coolers are generally a lot more fiddly to mount.

I would personally still suggest an AIO. Deepcools AK620 are excellent as @IRLRobinS points out. Or a Corsair H80i or Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240

I’d say the difficulty installing any cooler, whether air or aio, is about on par with each other, and may come down to installation method of the chosen cooler. Air has the simplicity of less cabling and small overall size, but you need to check things like height and RAM clearance. AIO might have more cabling and you need to check radiator sizing in relation to case mounting, but doesn’t have the fiddly fan clips to deal with.

One tip for either system is to run the cpu under load for about 10 mins to warm up the thermal paste, this will make it easier for existing cooler to be lifted off. Give it a tiny twist left and right as you apply some upward pressure.

Just to be 100% certain. You've suggested the pump due to unplugging it, but did the fans switch off too? The reason I ask is that the timing of the noise seemed in sync with the fan above the pump. I know this might not be the fans connected to the cooler, but the RPM seemed to match the noise for me.

To diagnose a fan, simply press your finger in the centre of the fan to slow it down and eventually stop it from spinning. They aren't direct drive so you won't damage them. You can also just hold it in place while turning the PC on.

Unfortunately I've been working away so I couldn't really sort anything 😂
I'm presuming so, I left my PC on for around 2 hours last night to keep watch on my temps and it hit 42 degrees at idle but I'm no expert 😂
I'm just still trying to decide on whether I want to go down the route of just an Air Cooler or try another AIO

So I've bought the Artic Liquid Freezer 240 and the back plate doesn't seem to match the holes in my motherboard. Would it be a sin to use the current backplate I have from my Coolermaster if it fits?

Yes, the backplates are specific to the cooler. If it's not the right cooler for the socket type you need the right version.
