I am a neophyte and just want to make sure any new desktop I buy is better than my current one. I’ve tried comparing each individual component using a variety of websites and I think I’ve managed it but it was all still quite confusing.
I attach the new build, and await your advice.

As regard usage, I have my desktop as my “entertainment centre” connected to my television as its monitor. Streaming TV shows, Netflix, Plex, etc. Simple gaming, nothing particularly graphics-heavy. Tends to be retro RPGs on Steam etc.
My current PC has:
Intel Core i7-8700 processor
Intel UHD Graphics 630 Desktop Coffee Lake i5 i7
WD Green 120GB (2018) & Seagate Barracuda 1TB (2016)
2x4GB Corsair memory

Sorry for slow piecemeal replies, guys. Budget is flexible. Like I said, I would like an improved build but I’m not looking for cutting-edge tech exactly. If I could keep things <£1K that would be good.

I wouldn't 'upgrade' to be honest. Where is the current system falling short? The 8700 CPU is going to be a fair bit more powerful than anything you can shoehorn into a sub £1k build.

The CPU would be a down-grade
As much as the RAM frequency might be better (You didn't specify) the amount isn't changing so that's pretty stagnent.
GPU is a massive upgrade, but unsure if it's necessary given your uses.
Storage will be significantly quicker, this is one definite area being upgraded.
PSU isn't the best, guessing your current system has a similar vein PSU.

Genuinely don't see any reason of upgrading at this budget.

I would wholeheartedly agree, if you let is know where performance is lacking we can advise on some upgrades
