Exactly what I thought..... I'm definitely getting this, all over it! I've just accepted a new job and gonna be 100% remote working (#relief!!!) so will have some extra time to fully immerse myself into this.... when's the actual release date?

PVE and PVP.
The PVE missions are likely to be more focused on clearing out Pirates.
Also exploration missions, it’s also expected that some of the station missions where you usually need to mine x minerals, will change to collect xx fauna and flora type missions - which is easier to implement than FPS.
Remember that Frontier also produce Zoo Planet and Jurassic World.
Imagine a mission where you need to capture a T Rex or take a sight seeing tour to Jurassic world... and it goes wrong.
I like the first footfall idea, as I have been playing since the beginning that would have been great for owning it all lol.
Also PVE still includes Thargoids and they have said ground stations will be inhabited with NPC’s in PVE.

"Early 2021" is all we know for now, but they will be alpha testing before then (but don't think for everyone). If I get my new PC by then I'll certainly be in the alpha testing to try it out.
You can play the game in "Open" which means pvp as well as pvp, or play it solo, they are also "private groups" you can join with strict rules of "PVE Only". Personally I hate the "Open" game and they are a lot of noob killers who pick on noobs because ... why not.
Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo and Jurassic World are also by Frontier -- All 3 are excellent game, and sound / music and graphically are all stunning (IMHO).
Side Note, if you like Elite style type of games - it's worth checking out the "X series" of games - latest is X4 by Egosoft too, SOLO only, but also great.
You know you can create your own private Groups?
I am in about 4 different ones, one of which is mine, the others belong to other mates, we use Discord for all groups.
it saves just using Mobius and is a great team pizza night
My only issue with open is the groups that deliberately go after high value ships, insurance can get a bit pricey - Corvettes and Cutters are a fair bit to replace.
I have Alpha tested in the past, just too busy these days.

Will you lot pack it in, I manged to break my Elite habit a few months ago....Moved onto World of Warships. To be honest, once they nerfed the mining and pinky promised to up the booty on combat missions (which hasnt happened AFAIK), I stopped playing.
Also i am utterly useless at First Person shooter games, so if this is what Frontier/Elite is thinking of doing next then it's a big no from me. Been playing this game on and off since it was on the Spectrum!

Lol, also moved back to World Warships and World Warplanes, as needed a break from Elite and Valhalla.
Oh the joys of grinding lol.
Yes, I do know you can create your own private group too, also in a group with a couple of friends as well, but mostly I just play solo due to different timezones / play times.

Some minor delays in PC development:
You will hear those coffin nails going in when Elite gets Ray tracing.
Imagine the Universe with full ray tracing.

For Grinding if still the case, then bouncing between Sothis and Ceos just brings in the Credits.
I mainly do trading and lots of Pirate / Bounty hunting.
Exploring is pretty good, learning to fuel scoop quickly is important.
Admittedly, I do tend to float around with high value cargo waiting to be attacked.
engineered hull, engineered weapons etc.
I find having my iPad sitting to side is great for navigating and finding specific systems.

Engineering, although tedious is the best thing on Elite. Although I still havent mastered getting Thargoid Tech without getting blown up!!
