Hi Everyone,
My current machine is getting on and I am looking at an upgrade.
The Elimina seems about my price range and without too many choices to make on cpu or gpu it feels relatively straight forward.
I am however caught between the 15" Elimina and the Elimina pro.
The key differences seem to be:
1) Pro has a 2560 x 1440 resolution vs 1920 x 1080 on the standard
2) Pro can accommodate slightly faster RAM (2933 MHz vs 2666 MHz)
3) The Pro is thinner
4) They seem to have different sound cards but I don't understand the specifics
Is that it or am I missing something?
On the differences
1) Will I be able to notice the difference in resolution on a 15" screen? If I will be able to see an obvious difference then I am happy to pay for it but don't want to waste money on something imperceptible.
2) I guess faster RAM is nice but unlikely to make a huge difference?
3) I'm not fussed by the thickness - unless of course the thinker standard chassis might actually help with cooling?
4) The descriptions make me think that the sound card on the standard model may actually be better... I don't use external speakers and so sound quality from the built in speakers is definitely a factor.
I would post my proposed spec but the configuration won't let me proceed because the chassis is out of stock and it suggests i select a different option - but obviously this isn't possible.
As final questions,
I often see specs posted with a first, small, hard drive for the os and then a larger drive for files. Why is this so popular as I don't understand the benefit over just having a larger single drive and having the option to add another in the empty port at a later date if extra space is needed.
Is arctic paste worth it? It is only £9 but does it actually make any difference?
I'm tempted to upgrade the wireless as well. Again it isn't a huge cost to upgrade (£13) and so this seems like a no-brainer.
If anybody has any thoughts/recommendations I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Ben
