Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Not a day one buy for me personally, but it's shaping up pretty good so far, despite what the usual bunch of permanently offended have been saying over the last week or two.

From what I've been reading, the ones that gave it a 'meh' or below rating from their in-person demo have not received codes to test the full version...and the only reviewers that are getting codes are those that have been boot-licking.

But then I might just be looking at the wrong channels (Fextralife, Skill-Up, et al) and I'm being fed the stuff I agree with, rather than a representative sample ;)

The problem is that there's no way to know who's in who's pockets, and what's a genuine review, what's a paid-for review, what's a free review but with some pressure from Bioware, and what's somewhere in-between.

I've got all the Dragon Age games, so I'll buy this one...but just like you I'll probably wait a few months for a sale (or if it becomes EA-app/DRM free via GoG).

Companies are forever playing silly buggers with their review copies, but then some reviewers also play silly buggers with them. I remember reading that review codes have popped up on reseller sites surprisingly often in the past.

I hadn't even heard of Fextralife until the above video - not sure if that says more about me or them, but that's a side thing. Ultimately, I guess they were expecting to get a review code so they could do a review video and get a load of hits. By not getting a review code, they've made a ragebait video to get trillions of hits instead - seems like a typical gaming Youtube thing to do to be honest.

I've still not fully completed Inquisition, despite putting in huge time into the first two Dragon Age games, so I probably need to get around to completing it before even thinking of getting Veilguard.

I’ve had various versions, and multiple copies of the series on Xbox, Mac and PC - just for completeness of course. I think the PC one was a fairly recent freebie GoTY from Epic.

The most helpful Steam reviews all seem to agree that The Veilguard is a pretty good RPG, but doesn't really feel like a Dragon Age game. Given the game was seemingly in development hell for a little while there, I'll take that. The previous Dragon Age games have all felt different to each other, so the latest game in the series doing something different from the others is no real surprise.
